Renting a 40ft ladder from battlefield in kingston (have one but needed another for a job downtown). I was slightly aggravated just upon pick up as I was the only customer on the lot and yet the two attendants stood watching me load the ladder alone. At 40ft those ladders should be handled by two people, but neither seemed interested or even capable of lifting it. After getting back to the jobsite with the ladder, another carpenter and I intended to install "rabbit ears" (a term for the bars that attach to a ladder through the rungs to add stability and keep your ladders hard/sharp edges from damaging the home when you're high in the air) yet the ladder had riveting and plates covering the rungs. There was no way to install them and therefore was a constant risk of the fibreglass ladder sliding on the vinyl siding and aluminum trough. My 40ft ladder, whish is only 2yrs old is capable of using multiple safety devices where as battlefields ladder is a safety risk. Even the pulls and rope for raising and lowering the ladder is in an improper place becoming a trip hazard at approximately 20ft off the ground. So by the time the 1 hour job was done, it had taken me 4 hours because of the inadequacy and dangers of Battlefields Ladder. Then I went to drop off the ladder. Assuming this was mostly just a misunderstanding I gave battlefield the benefit of the doubt and approached one of the men behind the counter while again being the only customer in the building, to be quickly told if it's drop offs not my problem go talk to the guy on the phone, vaguely pointing at the other employee. When he got off the phone I finished the paperwork and got my receipt while explaining my concerns with the use and safety of the ladder they provided me. The guy essentially laughed and said it wasn't the first they had heard of it but he said "likely it's the only 40 we had, didn't want you to rent elsewhere." ......Had someone gotten hurt, or property damage was caused this guy thinks its justified as "they didn't want me to rent elsewhere..." FML. I will never make the mistake of using they're service again, in the 8 years I've rented equipment from booms to ladders to post hole augers and now that business will go to Coopers, World of Rentals or United Rentals instead. Your lack of professional responsibility and integrity is to apparent to bother with any further. Hopefully this review does better then their business at warning potential customers.
