Batchawana Falls

This site describes some of the many waterfalls I have visited, most of which are located in the Great Lakes region. The Great Lakes contain roughly 20% of the world's fresh water. The lakes cover a total of 94,000 square miles (244,000 square km) and over 200,000 square miles (522,000 square km) of land drain into the lakes, including parts of Ontario, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Hundreds of waterfalls can be found in the area, ranging from large heavily trafficked tourist falls, to small roadside falls, to remote wild waterfalls which wait at the end of a long hike.

I hope you enjoy the pictures, and someday get a chance to visit some of the waterfalls. This map shows the general area containing most of the waterfalls described on this site. However waterfalls know no boundaries, and neither does this site. Several of the falls listed are hundreds of miles from the Lakes.

Great falls but the drive in was a little treacherous. I recommend parking off the road about 1.5 km from falls and walk in. Its a nice walk.

It’s risky without a 4 by 4. We stoped 2.5 km away and walked there. But it worth it.

Batchawana Falls is a very scenic place. It's not marked and not very visible from the logging road. It's between km marker 7 and 8 on Tribag Road. Road turn to right and just before that there is a little stream on the left that crosses the road. Parking is very limited, but it's worth the effort.

Do not take anything less than an SUV up to this spot!! It's an old mining road, very rocky, there was lots of water and very narrow in spots.

What a drive... Used my “Princess” Toyota Tundra, we call Maud, with 22” wheels and street rubber. We drive down an ever narrower and more difficult trail. Almost turned around twice but after a 37min drive(because of the tires and orange sized rocks) we arrived at our fourth and last waterfall of the day. Was it worth it? Meh, nice enough I suppose. An adventure for sure. (Off roaders need not comment... I know already. ;)

Batchawana Falls is an amazing Thrilling experience that doesn't come easy, the access road is not well maintained, narrow and bushy, flooded and muddy, some parts of the road are on an incline with round river rocks, summarizing you best have a 4X4 to make the trip, I have seen kids over the age of 5 but I would not recommend this place for kids under 10, to access this beautiful waterfalls you must descend a steep mud embankment that requires the help of another to make it through, also good hiking shoes are highly recommended, no sandals nor flip flops please! People do jump in the water from the cliffs, the river current is strong so if you don't know how to swim just enjoy the magnificent views, the rock is very exquisite and colorful, orange, blue, purple hues are a feast for the eyes combined with the dark brown color of the river. Please respect Nature by picking up your garbage so everyone an enjoy!
