Ruffly, 7-13 km. off the Sunnybrae-Canoe Point road, Bastion Mountain Lookout offers a wide angle view of the Salmon Arm Bay. The road to the tower is gravel with u-turn switchbacks and mildly rutted, which would accommodate a S.U.V., a truck, or a carefully driven car. It is the responsability of the users to use care at the lookout, as the cliff face is unfenced.

Beautiful view at the lookout. It isn't marked at all but park your vehicle at the point on the logging road when googles says you've arrived then walk for 5-10 minutes to the lookout on the small unmarked trail. There's no fencing so keep yourself and your kids in check.

Stunning View. See Canoe and Salmon Arm and the lovely Shushwap.

For adventurous sightseers (recommend an all-wheel drive SUV or a pickup truck, cars should be very careful of ruts), this logging-road-accessible viewpoint offers incredible vistas of the Okanagan Valley, Salmon Arm and the Shuswap from a towering view more than 800 meters (2,600 feet) above the lake below. There is a large clearing for a radio tower and helicopter cargo pad that makes for a great picnic spot. Easy access to cliff-side trails. Enter off Canoe Point Road road just east of Sunnybrae. The logging roads as shown in Google Maps are publicly accessible. They are steep and winding, but the roads are graded annually. Popular spot, so you'll rarely be the only people you see on your way up the mountain. NO washrooms or other facilities. Bring water and mosquito repellent. Safety note: This is publicly accessible, but it is an active logging area, so be prepared to give way to logging trucks and be sure to sound your horn on the several blind switchback corners. Update: Apparently enough of my fellow adventurers have visited this spot that Google Maps now generates accurate directions including the logging roads! (Note, there are some cell-phone dead spots on the way up as you get the summit between you and the signal towers). Makes for a much more reassuring trek up the hill as you get deeper and deeper into the woods.

What a view. We hiked to the top. It took about 2 1/2 hours from where we started, but it was well worth it.

A bit of a drive up the mountain; granted we were in a 1 ton crew cab long box so it was a bumpy drive. My suggestion would be to take either a smaller SUV/Jeep or an ATV/UTV. However, the view as well worth the terrain obstacles. Recommend exploring it.

Finally got up here after many years of looking across the lake at this big bluff. The road was in great condition and the gate was open at the top so we were able to drive right up to the towers. It’s 11km of gravel one way. We came around the corner at km 1.5 on our way up, to see two tow trucks just finishing the removal of a Honda van from over the brink. The kid didn’t seem to rattled and drove it away after putting the space saver spare tire on. I’d recommend driving carefully on the bottom 2km.
