About Baked Expectations

Our selection of thirty-plus desserts, which includes cakes tortes and cheesecakes, makes it impossible to choose and necessary to come back. From our gigantic burgers, to our unbelievable clubhouse, to our entire morning-till-late-nite menu, we’re very particular about the food we serve and the ingredients we use. Attention to the tiniest details ensures that your dessert, your food, and your experience is fabulous, each and every time.

Wrap this all in atmosphere that gives a playful nod to retro 50’s chic, and you’ve got a relaxed yet bustling space that welcomes people to do their own thing – whether it’s critiquing the show, lingering on that first date, or visiting from out of town for that elusive piece of cake that you just can’t get anywhere else.

Since owner Beth Grubert served up her first slices of Shmoo in 1983, she’s been in constant motion keeping things fresh and entertaining. Her care and dedication has kept our customers coming back for both their favourites and for new delights for over 30 years. So you’ll often find Beth amidst the action in our lively place - making sure everything is perfect, chatting with longtime customers, or happily watching neophytes stare in wonder as they peer into our dessert display for the first time. Because as she says, “they always go crazy. It’s something that never gets old.”

Many love to get Baked, not only at the café but at all their special events. Our flourishing catering business serves up whole cakes, business lunches and event catering to all our fans who must have Baked at their place. We’re located at the centre of Osborne Village - the hot spot for urbanites and indie shops in Winnipeg. Just another treat that makes Baked simply irresistible.

We order takeout from here regularly and are a big fan of many of their cakes. We’ve also dined in here as well for both their food and desserts. Best cakes in the city for sure! My personal favourite is the Tia Maria, but they have a ton of great options.

Staff are incredibly friendly, courteous, kind and caring. They love what they do, and they're phenomenal at it. You can taste how much effort and care goes into everything they make, and it's clear that they love not only what they do, but the people they're always happy to serve as well. I will go here as often as I can, and I recommend everyone do the same-they're good for the community, and they always leave you feeling satisfied, both in the food they make and the exceptional way they treat you. 12/10 :)

Mmmm - The Slayer Cake (AKA Salted caramel chocolate layer cake. It slays you with it’s insane deliciousness!) was our latest purchase for a family birthday. The combination chocolate and caramel created a heavenly choice. We were amazed at our ability to cut this cake!!

I like the way they make tortes. Cream are not too sweet, and I like the caramel torte, eat with Americano, definitely worth to try. Last time we order one whole Crazy Chocolate cake for my daughter’s birthday, she also likes it. If you are a chocolate fan, recommend. It’s good they provide dine in. So you can order one piece of cake and some drinks, sharing afternoon tea time with family and friends.

Staff is quick and professional. Shop is clean and cake presentation is nice. Closed to dine in with take out only-this is not posted on website. Several people disappointed. Cakes are heavy on icing and not much cake. 4 people, four different cakes. Nobody finished theirs-but not because of the portions which were on the small size. Pictured on 8 inch plate- as sliced. Another “Winnipeg Institution” that somehow manages to get 5 star reviews- is it nostalgia from first dates and a trendy neighbourhood? Is it high prices that make one convince oneself that it’s yummy and worth it? I can’t figure it out. Schmoo cake-left with a dry mouth and a sore stomach Vegan/Oreo- waaay too much sweet icing-pretty sure it’s just Betty Crocker icing (vegan too). If not - it tastes EXACTLY the same. Slayer cake- best of the ones we tried Crazy Chocolate-Enjoyable but the smallest portion Carrot Cake- waaay too much cream cheese icing - with Barely any sweetener- if you like eating cream cheese on its own by the spoonful you might like it because there’s very little cake. It was busy so I guess they’re doing something right, but I won’t be back. Worth trying once and you make up your mind if it’s worth another visit.

One of the best bakery in town. I used to frequent this place before the pandemic and it was one of the most lively places that used to stay open till 2am. Sadly the pandemic has slowed this place down too like everything else. Please make sure you have a hard copy of your photo ID because they are very strict about it.

Very delicious cakes - so many varieties of cheesecake and normal cakes. I almost like everything I tried here, but my ultimate favorites are the mocha torte and tripel salted carmel cake. Portions are huge, but the reason why I am giving this place 4 out of 5 is because of the price. It's about $10 per piece after tax, which is quite expensive. The price has been going up the past several years noticeably. Delicious cake, but I don't think the price is justifiable. I used to get desserts here quite often, but now it is only for special occasions - a couple of pieces of cakes here can get you a decently good full cake at other good places in Winnipeg. They are also CASH OR DEBIT only!

So I got the chance to visit my old haunt from the 80’s. it did not disappoint! The classic 50’s vibe and the delicious selection of cakes to fit anyone a taste!!! I will let the photos do the talking. We tried 3 different ones this time and they were all heavenly. The photos of the restaurant look a little sparse but that’s because of the COVID restrictions, it is late March 2022 and the restrictions are done as of April 1, in most of Canada. Masks are optional everywhere except hospitals, airports and federal government related departments I believe.
