About Ascendant Martial Arts
Sean was fascinated with Martial Arts for as long as he can remember. Now, as a father and husband, he wants to share that passion with his family, friends and community.
Sean started his Martial Arts training as a child but became very serious about it when he discovered wrestling. Wrestling for the U of R for 4 years before moving on to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and soon thereafter to Mixed Martial Arts competition. Sean has fought and competed against the very best in Canada and had a reputation for being a very skilled and relentless fighter. Over time, with age and injuries becoming bigger and bigger factors, he has shifted his focus from being an athlete, to coaching and sharing his knowledge and experience.
Sean’s wife and son both train regularly and his brother manages the front desk of the gym. Sean and his family have created a family run business that has a very family-oriented feel.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ascendant Martial Arts is the best gym for giving you options. There are adult classes for Wrestling , Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai/Kickboxing, Women's Self-defense, MMA/Kickboxing sparring, and Jiu Jistu competition.
Also there kids classes are amazing! I've never seen so many tough yet happy kids in one spot. They youth can take classes in Wrestling, Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing. This is a broad overview for the kids program. Please contact them for more information.
They treat you well here as a new member of the gym, which is why I have been a member for over 3 years. The coaches and senior members ensure that you learn as much as you can, and also watch over you as you spar/roll to ensure injures can be avoided.
The Muay Thai/Kickboxing is great here. We work mostly on contact drills/Dutch drills and heavy bag work. This class does focus on footwork when doing the drills. The sparring class is technical sparring. The focus is on technique and working on one specific goal each time your spar.
In my opinion this is the best school for Jiu Jitsu because coach Sean and Hajar have backgrounds in wrestling. This enhances the teams ability to have takedown skills along side their Jiu Jitsu knowledge.
Whether you like to focus on one martial art or multiple, Ascendant Martial Arts has the coaches and the members to improve your martial arts experience.
