AROMA Dim Sum - Calgary

Ever since Alberta opened up and indoor dining restrictions were lifted, Aroma Dim Sum restaurant has gotten quite busy - an indicator of its increasing popularity. I tried for about an hour to order take out by phone without success. I went to the almost fully-occupied restaurant (the tables are well distanced from each other) and ordered in person. The order-taker admitted that when they’re overwhelmed with orders, they disable their phone (you’ll hear a busy signal). I ordered 5 items which were ready in less than 20 minutes - a pleasant surprise considering how busy they were at dinner time. The Cilantro Egg Drop Soup with Beef comes with soft tofu and tender beef slices with just the right amount of citrusy flavor; just stir in the cilantro which the soup is topped with. (Aroma’s soups come in non-recyclable Styrofoam cups.) This is menu item number 1007 and well worth trying. The Deep Fried Spring Rolls (number 1102) are always crispy and evenly-fried. Many Asian restaurants offer spring rolls accompanied by a sauce. Aroma’s rolls stand on their own without the need for a sauce as they’re already savory. Item 2108, Stir Fried Egg Noodles with Seafood has a good mix of shrimp, scallops, fish, imitation crab, squid plus Chinese broccoli over well-cooked thin noodles. This is one of my favorites. Fish Fillet with Deep Fried Tofu Hotpot (# 1706) comes with mushrooms, cabbage and a few strips of green onions. I added a few drops of soy sauce to enhance the taste of the fish and fried tofu. 1105, Deep Fried Shrimp Dumplings (5 pieces) were probably as good as I can recall. My son wiped them out, leaving not even a crumb for me. There are a few other Chinese restaurants within a 5-kilometer radius of Aroma but Aroma has become my go-to resto because of its food variety, flavor, cooking consistency and polite service. Prices are higher than average but I know what quality to expect. Keep in mind that wait times increase the busier they get - 40 minutes at one of my attempts. I’ve seen 8 take-out bags waiting to be fetched on another occasion.

Had dim sum at Aroma today, ordered a grill shrimp pork cake with chives, completely raw. Told the waitress about the raw cakes, no apology from the waitress whatsoever. One of them even said we gonna microwave it and bring it back. Disgusting. If I have any health issue caused by this raw pork meat, then I will report to AHS.

Yummy Dim Sum, always tasty. I'm sure have lunch each week.

Delicious dim sum! Some of the best eggplant and sui Mai I had. Service was also decent.

Very convenient location. No line up to get a table on a Sunday morning around noon. Food taste above average at reasonable price. Service was fast.

5/5 service, 4/5 food. It's great to have a decent dim sum option in Calgary NW! Some of our favourites include the shrimp-stuffed eggplant, beef flank noodles in soup, fried taro dumplings, shrimp dumplings, bamboo sticky rice (no mushrooms for the mushroom averse), and their custard buns. With generous portions and great service, we're eager to go back to try more items.

This is an amazing spot to eat dim sum! The portions are really great and the service was very friendly. I will definitely come back again! I ordered some dessert to go after the meal because I was too full and I know I would regret not getting it.

Been wanting to try this place out! I always thought this was a small place where it’s just take out, but that was probably because of the pandemic! Again it was a pub before but the inside is all freshened up and they are serving some good Dim Sum!! Portions were large and the service was good. Food came out quickly. Dim Sum menu was your typical fare. Everything tasted good!! Very clean and service was good. Would definitely recommend and another good spot in the NW Calgary!!
