Prepare yourself and vehicle for a bumpy and rocky road drive to the Ancient forest ?.... SUV or truck recommended not so much for sedans and small cars..... it’s a hike to the hike..... intermediate level i would say

We drove our small sedan car up to the trailhead where there's a parking lot. Drive was not easy since there's holes but we didn't have any issues. Trail was clearly marked and very well maintained. There's a few good views and a waterfall before getting to the ancient cedar (supposedly 1000+ yrs old). There were a LOT of mosquitos swarming around us the whole hike. 5KM there and back, easy/medium difficulty.

Nice easy 5 km hike with the family (kids are 10 & 12). It took us 1h & 30 minutes round trip at a steady talking pace. Definitely we’ll-maintained and marked. You can’t get lost. Excellent grove of 1000 year old trees. Nice lookout of Shadow lake. We took our SUV on the gravel road. Kids and wife were a little stressed. Definitely bumpy and rough, but take your time and you’ll get there and back, no problem. If you’re worried about popping a tire, park anywhere on the service road and hike in. It’s a fun adventure. No mosquitoes at all.

Don't forget your mosquito repellents in summer!!! View is not impressive, ancient cedars are cool. Lots of mosquitos on the trail in early June, left with over 10 bites and at least 40 dead mosquito bodies.

Gorgeous forest with a nice loop trail. Difficult to access, but worth the trek. Road not maintained in the winter.

It felt like we were on an Indiana Jones adventure driving up to the Trail Head! We drove an SUV, but I would imagine a sedan would have lots of scratches and bumps on the bottom. The drive up there was definitely bumpy, lots of pot holes and large puddles of water. It takes about 15-20 minutes to drive up to the parking lot, it seems never-ending. Bring insect repellent! Lots of mosquitos for mid-June. The hike itself was good, just over an hour of upward trails, not super difficult but definitely not flat. The Ancient Cedars are a nice viewpoint. I enjoyed the adventure, but would likely not go back unless I had bug spray or confirmed that there were no mosquitos.

You can drive ALL THE WAY to the trail head. I had a Jeep but two sedans behind me also made it. Just drive slowly and be cautious. Trail is 5km Roundtrip. Start from the right hand side entrance to Ancient Cedar Trails go counter clockwise. You’ll pass cougar and showh lakes before rounding back south. 1.5-2 hrs at a decent pace. Bring mosquito repellant.

I am sure the cedars are beautiful, but we never made it. After a 2km drive with our rented Toyota Corolla up the rocky road, we parked and hiked up to the trail start. Unfortunately, another 5km hike was more than my post-covid lungs could handle for the day so we hiked back to the car. :( BC Tourism/Park Maintenance: If this is still an attraction, perhaps a bobcat a couple times a year to flatten the dips and make the road more drive-able. Or even a warning sign for all vehicles who enter about the journey they are about to embark on. lol
