A Short History
In the early 90’s, our fearless founder, Ken Klatt, saw the need for a new kind of health food store- one that welcomed everyone. After an awkward experience shopping at the local organic food store while wearing a suit, Ken got to work creating this space.
Let’s let him tell the story.
Two events in my life led me down this path. The first was environment-related. I was one of a small group of Calgarians who valued the benefits of recycling paper and glass. We worked individually in our own communities to host monthly recycling drives at our community centres. As our success grew, we joined forces and reached out to business partners – a local mall, the city of Calgary, Nova Corporation – and initiated recycling drives at a shopping centre in northwest Calgary.
The second was my getting involved with a local health food co-op. I began shopping at the Earth Harvest Co-op after tasting some organic apples. Befriending staff on my weekly shopping trips led to several terms as a director for the co-op. At that time, it seemed like the industry was living in the past and that by presenting a more inviting shopping experience, we would encourage more people to buy these healthy products. I had the concept of increasing this market by creating a demand for organics rather than marching in the street and telling farmers what to grow.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Amazing store with a bunch of organic yummies and terrific personal care products. This is the place where one can find pesticide-free locally grown strawberries, juicy apples and pears, fleshy tomatoes, delicious cream cheese, incredibly nutritious milk, home-taste yoghurts, and nice sausages with a perfectly low sodium number. Being a big fan of organic and homemade food, I am super happy to finally find so high-quality goodies in the local store and introduce them to my toddler. What concerns the personal care choice, it is always a top-notch selection: From highly moisturizing natural creams to baby-friendly products. Being a truly happy customer, I would strongly recommend this place to everyone who is looking for a better way to eat, live, and thrive.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I love this store. It has a very good selection of supplements, fresh food, cleaning products and frozen foods as well as a good selection of non-dairy products. I just wish the store on 130th was as big with all the foods too and then I wouldn't have to drive so far coming in from Okotoks.

We love how everyone at the store makes the effort to know you by name. It's no wonder we continue to shop within our community since they also carry a wide selection of organic products and fabulous supplements section with knowledgeable staff!

They have an incredible supplement selection and certified staff you can share your health challenges with and get real time recommendations! I've never experienced this anywhere else. Oh, and be sure to take advantage of their 20% off day the first Wednesday of every month on supplements and body products. I stock up all the time on these days. I'm thankful for their fair prices and commitment to supporting local business as well.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Friendly helpful, patient, clean staff and store. Wearing masks to protect others and themselves from this deadly variant Covid pandemic in this small store. Kind and thoughtful thinkers in choosing to wear masks, eventhough our Conservative Priemer Jason Kenny lifted all restrictions in the worst timing of the transmission of this deadly variant. AB over 1000 cases a day worse then one year ago stats. In my circle alone I have grieved 30 friends & relatives.
. Their competition doesn't take such care of their customers like Amaranth Foods.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This store has always had everything I need and then some things I really enjoyed trying. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They have lots of really great deals-seniors and first Wednesday of every month is customer appreciation day with 20% off supplements etc. Amaranth makes it easy to find the store deals with their "Way to Save" tab at the top of the page on their site.
I have been shopping at Amaranth for years and have never been disappointed.

They always have all the products in stock that I need. If ever out of stock they promptly order it and call me when it's in.
