Alter, Stuckler & Associates

I have been seeing Elissa Goldstein for over 7 years now and she has honestly changed my life. She has helped me work through some very hard times and continues to be my most important supporter. She has cultivated a friendly and open relationship with me so that our sessions never feel clinical, which has been so important to my success. I plan to continue seeing Elissa for as long as she will have me and I imagine I will stay in contact with her for a long time regardless of where life takes me.

Dr. Stuckler is a terrible psychologist. When I went in for my assessment, she was very unprofessional throughout. At the end of the assessment, she stated that I have a "Learning Disability". Which one? Autisim? ADHD? OCD? Who know?! Not her apparently! Nor does she care about fixing wrong information without giving her more money. There's a feeling that this woman lacks any empathy much like her counterpart Dr. Alter. The establishment also houses exactly 0 male Psychologists, which I find unaccomadating and careless for male patients looking for mental help. Male patients DO NOT get treated with the same level as respect and care as female patients. You'd get a better psychiatric help from staring at a brick wall. I CAN NOT recommend this place in the slightest if you're looking to better your mental health.

Dr Alter was extremely unhelpful, arrogant, dismissive and insensitive. She failed to accurately diagnose my child with Aspergers (high functioning autism), and basically blamed bad parenting as the cause of my child's issues and challenges. Since meeting with Dr. Alter, I have taken my child to see other psychologists and therapists (both privately and through school) and they have ALL assessed that he clearly has Aspergers, anxiety and ADHD. He is now able to access the appropriate services and therapies to help him. For other parents who may possibly have a child on the spectrum, I would suggest you look elsewhere for help and answers. Dr Alter obviously doesn't seem to have the professional expertise in this area, nor the warmth and empathy to guide and support you and your child on your journey. I rarely ever review, but felt compelled to share my thoughts about Dr. Alter with other parents in the community.

I am a family doctor who worked at a major Canadian university - in this capacity, I had occasion to refer dozens of students for assessment of attentional and learning disorders. As well, many came to the school with pre-existing assessments, and of these, the ones carried-out by Dr. Anna Stuckler stand-out as superb. One of the reports - done many years before I saw the patient - was so accurate that I felt immediate regret that I hadn't had access to it years earlier; I also think it's unfortunate that the student hadn't taken the recommendations offered to-heart (or perhaps even really read them), as they were so insightful and, applied correctly, might have been very valuable. As well, I recently referred another patient to her, and was once again very impressed with the quality of her work. As a physician, I confess that I generally dislike online reviews; professionals in Ontario are not permitted to respond to them, even if they contain blatant untruths; given this, I look for opportunities to at least contribute positive reviews for the clinicians who I feel are exemplary and deserving of commendation. It's unfortunate that Dr. Stuckler has received some negative reviews - in reading them, it seems likely that they're written by disgruntled clients who didn't receive the diagnosis they were hoping for - usually, this is a diagnosis of ADD/ADHD which will enable the client to request stimulant medication from their doctor. I obviously can't attest to their individual experiences, but what I can say is that I've found Dr. Stuckler both highly professional and highly skilled in the area of psycho-educational assessments. Rest assured that, should you be considering referral to a psychologist, Dr. Stuckler is one of the best - I've had patients assessed at centers in Toronto, Peterborough, Kingston and Calgary, and the quality of Dr. Stuckler's assessments exceeded those done at these other centers. I would encourage anyone fortunate enough to be referred to Dr. Stuckler to appreciate and carefully consider the value of her advice and recommendations. Timely referrals, and the staff there is fine, too - so 5 stars all-round!

Been a patient of Dr Anna Stuckler for over 10 years. Throughout the 10 years she has provided superb "coaching" to me in regards to dealing with anxiety, family and development issues. Whats most impressive is she remembers each and every visit and starts each session referencing what improvements I've made. There are very few people who take the time to care and develop great strategies on tackling a variety of issues. I continue to see her now approx once a month and to see how my life has changed over the past 10 years is simply remarkable, Just do you work outside of your sessions and with her great guidance your life will be as fulfilling as mine. I highly recommend her to anyone who needs help with their kids, anxiety or anyone wanting to simply improve their life.

I am a family lawyer with clients who often need help for themselves and their children. I first heard about Dr. Alter from a client. Dr. Alter probably saved a child's life in that situation. I have kept in touch over the years with that child and I believe that Dr. Alter was key in how well the child has done. Since then, I've lost track of how many times Dr. Alter has rescued my clients and their children. I've known Dr. Alter all these years both personally and professionally. I would not recommend any other child psychologist because Dr. Alter is the complete package. She will go out of her way to accomplish the thing that will benefit your child. She doesn't stick to a box and no request is treated with disrespect. If she can help, she will! When she feels that she has done all she can, she will tell you honestly and will never keep collecting her fee if she does not see the benefit to your child. This group of women is all about what's best for your child. They are progressive, knowledgeable, well informed and extremely professional!

My teenage son had a severe phobia that began impacting his life 6 years prior. We explored many resources to help him ourselves... parenting literature, books for him, asking his doctor for advice, asking Public Health for advice... as he got older, it became more severe. We finally decided we needed a psychologist who specializes in CBT and phobias. That's when I found Dr. Rachel Gropper, and she changed his life. The tricky part when trying to support a teenaged boy is if you don't have their agreement or buy-in, good luck! Dr. Gropper was warm, sensitive, kind, gentle, engaging, respectful and so, so skilled. He truly appreciated being spoken to and treated like a young, independently-thinking adult and she brought out the best in him. We never imagined that we would be talking about his phobia in the past-tense. Thank you, Dr. Gropper!

Warm, kind, professional, and helped my kid through a difficult time. After a few sessions, they had the strategies and confidence to tackle their problems. Dr. Gropper is absolutely amazing. We now see her occasionally for “check-ins”, and to put out fires that pop up from time to time.
