About 7th Avenue Fashions

7th Avenue Fashions, has been a landmark on Academy Road for the past 25 years. Melina De Luca, the owner of the iconic bridal shop is known as, "Winnipeg's Bridal Guru."Ask anyone who drives by the intersection of Academy and Lanark and they will tell you that her windows are always amazing and always changing. Equally impressive is the mural on the side of the buildingpainted by Charlie Johnston. If you ask Melina, she will be happy to tell you how his brush strokes captured her spirit and passion. It was no surprise that the mural has become a Winnipeg attraction for brides to use as a backdrop in their own wedding photographs. However, the ultimate compliment is when a 7th Avenue Fashion bride returns to take pictures with Melina and her staff.

Melina's appreciation for beautiful clothing was evident a very young age and she intuitively knew that her career would be in fashion. After completing high school at St. Mary's Academyshe began her studies at the University of Manitoba. She excelled in the Faculty of Human Ecology and acquired her degree with a Major in Clothing and Textiles. She continued to pursue her love for fashion at Parsons School of Design in New York honing her design and marketing skills. After returning to Winnipeg she worked with local designers and retailers and began pursuing her dream of owning her own bridal store.

With her education and experience in place Melina began to focus her attentionto bridal. She was committed to finding timeless fashion and high quality at an exceptional price. She wanted to be the connection for her brides, their wedding parties, guests and prom girls to have access to runway worthy fashions. Melina and her dedicated sales staff and expert in house seamstresses are committed to make certain that each of their customers gets precisely what they deserve.

Equally important, upstairs in the corner office behind all the excitement, embedded in paper work is Joe. For most of you who do not know him he is Melina's husband and business partner. He has been recognized for his business acumen in the industry and applauded for his ethical approach in business and always leading by example. In the centre of their universe are their two children who remind them to slow down and enjoy life and all it’s blessings.

I had such a wonderful experience shopping at 7th Avenue Fashions! Although I didn't purchase my wedding dress from here, the service was exceptional. Both ladies I spent time with went out of their way to make my experience incredible. It was so special that I went back to bring my bridesmaids dress shopping, and we purchased all of our bridesmaid dresses from here. I highly encourage all brides to visit this establishment.

7th Ave Fashions was my 2nd dress stop were awesome from day one! They did my alterations as well and did a great job, plus they went above and beyond. All the alterations were great but the top of the cups on the dress still needed work. My wedding was 3.5 weeks out and was told it was no problem. I politely asked if it could be done for Friday (2.5 days away) because I was going home for the weekend. My grandparents weren’t able to attend the wedding so I wanted to take some pictures and have them on my memory table. All this was during Covid which has affected timelines.... Without hesitation they said yes and did the quick turnaround. My dress was ready for Friday and I got my picture with my grandparents. On my wedding day I felt beautiful and received so many compliments. Thanks 7th Ave Fashions for being part of my wedding day :)

I have visited the store and browsed their gorgeous dresses....the staff are both welcoming and very knowledgeable. I am currently planning my wedding and have a lot of unknowns, but the one certainty I have is that I'll be buying my dress here!!

This was our first stop for dress shopping, and the bride was treated like anything but a bride. Everyone working there seemed grumpy and/or stuck up. Unless you're paying for a private fitting room, you're no one to them. At least that's how we felt. The off the rack dresses were full of snags and looked like velcro was stuck and ripped off (yet still $1000). There wasn't a proper setup for the bride to see the back of the dress and we were rushed out so fast I didn't even have my shoes on and she was holding the door open for us to get out. (Still technically had 5 minutes left of the appointment). As someone who is engaged and was there with the bride, I will also be taking my business elsewhere.

I purchased my wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses from 7th Avenue. The team is very kind and patient. I never felt rushed or that I was picking too many dresses to try on. They also have absolutely wonderful customer service!

I found my wedding dress at 7th Avenue in 2019, and finally got to wear it on my wedding day June 2021! 7th Avenue is a wonderful, intimate salon carrying tons of gorgeous dresses. The owner is lovely, and I felt really good about supporting her business. I was able to find lots of options in the style I came in looking for (A-line with lots of lace!). I was also able to try on some other styles too - Lots of β€œin style” dresses without it being overwhelming. (I honestly found a lot of the larger salons in the city overwhelming, as there is sooo much to filter through and be distracted by.) I had a very positive experience here!

The staff were great but I was pretty disappointed that they didn’t have any dresses bigger then a size 16 to try on… nothing like trying to picture yourself in a dress that’s way too small. Not a place for plus size brides, I definitely left there feeling overwhelmed, insecure and uncomfortable in my own skin. You would think that with how much society is pushing for body positivity/feeling comfortable in your own skin/all bodies are beautiful that they’d have bigger sizes to try on.

I wasn't very impressed with the staff when we first arrived. We were not given personal service to choose the dress that we suggested was the desired style. When we were at another bridal shop, they gave us a personal assistant who stayed with us, and brought various dresses for the whole visit. But, at 7th Avenue, we did finally find a dress that was perfect for the bride. So in the end, it turned out to be a worthwhile stop.
