★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I've been working in the wine industry in the valley for over a decade and a half. Often I will tour the wineries of the valley just to experience the way other wineries run their tasting room. Even when I was a young buck still wearing his stanfield the staff at Zanatta always treated me like I was a family member coming in from the rain for a nice cup of tea. Always warm and friendly and relaxed. A classic visit, and a way to experience the very inception of winemaking in the valley, as if it were preserved in amber. Touring the valley and missing Zanatta would be a crime.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A very disappointing birthday lunch at this winery. We wanted to support local businesses after everything being shut down for so long but this was very poor service and a mediocre charcuterie.
The topper was a flight of sparkling wines served in flutes ( not mini carafes) so my family had to sip from each other’s glasses! Never seen a flight of wine served that way, especially in Covid times.
Will not be returning any time soon.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We went to Zanatta as part of the Cowichan Wine Festival. Tasted a total of 6 of their wines. All were great. Service and knowledge of the staff was also notable.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Still and sparkling wines are all exceptional! Such a treat to have the wine maker doing the tasting. Sadly patio closed due to staffing shortage but 100% worth the trip for some sips!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Stopped in on Saturday on a drive from Victoria to Tofino for a wine tasting and lunch. This is the oldest vineyard in the region, and as I'm sure there is some prestige in this, I was surprised that I didn't enjoy the wines.
A tasting is $5, and we received four wines to taste - lighter pours and quantities than the other wineries we visited in Cowichan. The sparkling Brut could have been a great sip - sadly, it had been sitting on the bench for too long and was warm.
The other white and two reds were nice, but nothing overly exciting.
We ate at the restaurant, Vineteca,, which I was told is a local chef who rents the space from the vineyard. A great idea, but poorly executed. A 50 minute wait, for sub-par pasta. You can read a full Google review of the restaurant at Vinoteca Restaurants Google Page.

Great atmosphere, original home with wrap around veranda overlooking the grape vines.
