About Yves Salon

Over twenty years in the beauty industry, have worked for one of Edmonton’s top black hair salons for twelve years, of the twelve years, four of which I managed a second location.

I have traveled to some great cities in the United States such as Atlanta GA, New York NY, Orlando FL, Los Angeles CA, Miami FL, to participate in hair and trade shows for education and experience of the latest in new and upcoming trends. I also attend Edmonton AB and Calgary AB, hair and trade shows, as well as regularly attend courses on beauty and the latest hot trends, colour and cutting courses as well as business courses.

I am a Journeyman Hairstylist and am experienced extensions artist and installer. I specialize in care and maintenance of the hair, the extensions as well as the styling of the extensions and ones hair.

I have volunteered over 100 hours in the Edmonton, Alberta Cross Cancer Institute (CCI) over the years, and am experienced in the needs of my client/patients in their wig and scalp requirements (such as people with Alopecia).

I am competent in all hair types, whether it be straight, curly, wavy, kinky, Caucasian, mixed, black hair, Asian or Indian. I have clients with heritages from around the world.

Went to Yves salon on a friend's recommendation. Even though I made an appointment two separate times, I was still asked to wait for at least 2hrs. Unacceptable! I refused and voiced my annoyance with her lack of regard for my time, she offered a 20% off coupon redeemable in the future; I have not used it and will not use it. So disappointed as I was really hoping to make this a regular stop for my hair care.

I had an appoint for a hair cut and curl definition booked for 4 pm I didn’t get out of the salon until 10 pm and still didn’t get my hair styled the way I wanted it. In the middle of my appointment they took in a walk in so I was sitting there for an hour waiting for my hair to be done. I was so looking forward to this appointment but 6 hours and still not styled is ridiculous. And no apology for lateness or anything.

This is my (negative) review: Yves Salon is clean and well kept. She is very knowledgeable however her lack of consideration for her customers is appalling. I booked my appointment for 10am to get a braided bob and didn't leave till 11pm. I was consistently abandonned for other "quick" appointments, as she was the only capable stylist on staff. Her assistant needed more coaching and experience. She over booked herself and her clients suffered. There is a sign inside that reads after hours will be charged additional cost per hour after closing (6pm), which is ridiculous when you consider the time you are paying for is not because someone was consistently working on your hair! I was told afterwards to pick a day earlier in the week to avoid this circumstance and given a 20% off coupon. I haven't redeemed the coupon, I won't on principle. You don't continuously give money to people who don't care about you.

Yvette is an amazing woman who gave me the full head of hair I wanted when I lost some of it due to my alopecia. She spent all day with me, making sure I was satisfied with it. With some amazing jokes and laughs along the way, I was made to feel at home in her salon, and all the other girls there are absolute sweethearts. They're flexible with ensuring you're completely happy, and Yvette has some sort of magic, being able to give me a full head of hair when I'm bald on my right side. It turned out absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend.

If there was an option to give 0-star, I would. She does not respect time! I booked an appointment for 12pm and got through at 4pm. Then to make matters worse, her son washed my hair and another staff dried my hair. I had 3 people in my hair that day. She was not forthcoming with the price and the price changed after treatment. In addition, after I mentioned to her that she should respect the time of her clients she responded (in a very condescending way) that she was short on staff and that she wasn't suppose to come in and she should've cancelled the appointment!!! IF she had cancelled the appointment then I would've been less frustrated and would've respected the "business" more. She did give me a good trim, it seems like she knows her stuff. But she has no respect for the time of her clients. Her attitude is SOUR! However, her staff and son were both pleasant. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! Unless of course you like waiting for 4 hours to get your hair done!

One word. Amazing. I was welcomed well. At first, by a sweet girl named June/fartoun did the Olaplex treatment for me. She was very professional and . She explained me well of all the steps and the results. Afterward the owner Yves / a master class hairstylist took over to complete it. I also got a hair cut. Yes yes yes and yes I would definitely recommend my f&f. But make sure to book your appointment. I found my spot. See you soon ladies.

I got my hair braided here and the service was exceptionnel. The took me to a private room and worked on my hair for almost 5 hours with so much patience! Throughout they kept the mood so light and we talked and chatted the whole time. It was a super comfortable experience and the customer service went beyond my expectations. I'm definitely going to become a regular!

Ok, so this is a long review but be sure to review to avoid a bad service: I called Yvette on Monday evening to inquire about a tapered cut on a full head of natural hair, coloring the tips of my hair, and style. She advised me that I don't need to go a barber and she has experience with short cuts on natural hair and she can do it all. I asked how long I should expect at the appointment. She told me 3 hours. I was not informed of any after hours surcharge. My appointment was scheduled for 5pm. This was my experience: 1. Time Management: I arrived at 4:45pm for my appointment. There were three stylists including Yvette, and two customers who were already in a styling chair. Two stylists and one customer were eating. My hair was detangled starting at 5pm. I did not leave the shop until exactly midnight. SEVEN HOURS. Not a single apology from Yvette for misquoted time. As a new mom, I don't have time to waste at a salon for 7 hours, when I was quoted for 3 hours. Complete disregard of people's time! 2. Cleanliness: styling seats were not wiped down between customers. The same towel that had styling tools and hair on it was simply flipped around and used for another customer. Nobody, I mean nobody sanitized their hands, and note the sanitizer was located at the entrance of the shop. Yvette was eating intermittently while working on my hair and I witnessed several instances where she did not wash her hands before or after touching my hair. We are in a pandemic regardless of most restrictions being lifted. Cleanliness is expected. At the minimum, your hands should be washed. 3. Professionalism: Please note there are no prices listed on her website. At the beginning of my appointment, she told me she would be transparent about how much each service cost as we went along. I was only quoted for the olaplex shampoo and conditioner at $80. Not a peep about anything else. After coloring my hair, she put my hair in twists that i had to take out on my own the next day, but charged my $95 for it, and told me I could wear it as is, I didn't need to take it out. I made it clear, I wanted my hair out, and would not be wearing it in twists. 4. Skill set: Prior to my appointment, I sent Yvette pictures of the cut and style I wanted, and the color. Please note the color she had previously done on a separate client as I found it on her instagram page. She told me she could do it. On my appointment day, I also showed her the pictures and she had them in a text. They were not referenced during my cut. I ended up with a skin fade on both sides of my head which I did not ask for and when I told her that she said "oh it will grow back in a week". No apologies. She also gave me a line-up WITHOUT asking. She never gave me a mirror to see the back of my head, check if I liked the shape, nothing. I also had to stop her from essentially giving me a high top as I made it clear I wanted my curls to sit on my forehead. Again, she never referenced the pictures. I left that shop completely humiliated and in tears about my haircut. I went to the barbershop next day who noted my lineup was uneven, the cut was rough and looked like it had been done with scissors only (which is exactly what was done, the clippers were only used for my skin fade and line-up, which my cut needed more work with clippers than slippers to make it blend). My coloring was also not what I wanted. I asked for 3 tones. I was told I didn't need 3 tones. I suspect this is because she was tired. Again, I wasn't heard. 5. At 11:53pm, I was charged a total of $466 (with no itemized receipt by the way) and in my delirium from being so exhausted, I stupidly tipped out of habit. I just wanted to get out of there. I am so disappointed that I trusted a black hair salon to do a black woman's hair. Finding a skilled hairstylist in Edmonton is truly a treasure, and unfortunately she is not skilled. Please beware and save yourself the trauma I experienced!
