About Windy Lake Motel & Restaurant

The Windy Lake Motel and Restaurant opened in October 1972. As of September 1997, it was owned and operated by Ralph and Jessica Linton. What started out as a retirement project has now grown well beyond their initial expectations.

Ralph has 43 years of experience working as a long haul driver and underground miner and is therefore knowledgeable of the ins and outs of the local industries.

Jessica on the other hand, has over 40 years of management experience in small businesses across Canada.

Together, with their staff and friendly smiles, they are perfect for understanding their guest’s needs and offering accommodations that are catered to the individual.

Born in rural Englehart, Ralph and Jessica are both familiar with every day challenges and are eager to help customers in any way that they can.

They have been know to assist drivers who’ve gotten their vehicles stuck in the ditch during bad weather and have once driven for as long as 4 hours in order to rescue snowmobilers who had gotten lost during a blizzard.

The phrase “willing to give you the shirt off their back” accurately sums up their generosity. They once parted with one of the motel blankets in order to help a cancer patient.

The two have numerous stories to share, just ask. The motel takes pride in offering first name basis service that will make your stay all the more comfortable.

The Windy Lake Motel and Restaurant is also proud to have hosted the Annual Ice Fishing Derbies, Polaris Demo Events, Boart Ice Drill Projects, X Country NOSSA, Skiing Championships and the Summer Fishing Derbies.

We are going through many changes here this year.

Our son Oscar and his wife Amanda are taking over the business and we  are semi-retiring.

Oscar brings to the business 21 years of food/hospitality experience.  From Timmins to Kingston and  Ottawa to Sudbury area, he has managed and opened various franchise outlets.  This extensive background has enabled him to apply these skills to the operation at Windy Lake Motel and Restaurant.

For the past 6 years he has been part of the business, taking over more responsibility as the time has progressed.

Amanda has experience in retail, and franchise hospitality.  She is a certified PSW, so brings that into the business  to round out the circle of qualifications.

Along with Oscar and Amanda come 2 energetic sons, Jono and Thomas.

With both having work at Windy Lake before taking it over, they have seen the impact of personal service and daring to care.

Place was nice, people were nice, food at restaurant was good, room was ok, beds were awful! The room we were in had 2 double beds that were rock hard, it was like sleeping on a board. Absolutely no padding on the beds at all, felt like a boxspring, not a mattress. Ridiculous since it could be fixed with a simple mattress pad. I would stay there again if the mattresses were updated as the place would be great then.

Excellent motel for the area. Service was exceptional! Both the motel and attached restaurant. Restaurant was great!!! Had lunch, dinner and breakfast there. Everything was carefully prepared and delicious. Our server was so nice; didn't see a name but she has kind brown eyes and a purple flowered facemask. The room was large, and our room came with three beds. Microwave, fridge, lots of hot water for the tub. Wifi was fast. The pillows I found were too thick and firm and I woke in the night with a stiff neck And there's no in-room coffee Otherwise I'd give it a 5/5

We used the apartments for about a week. Although the living space and kitchen are very basically furnished, they are clean and comfortable and provide all that one needs for a multi-day stay. We look forward to our next stay there.

Great food, great atmosphere and a great location. It's a regular stop on our sledding trips. One stop shop, food, fuel, and much more.

It was a stop on our local snowmobile trail system. They have full accommodations from food to, gas, to rooms. Service was friendly and coffee was good. Great place to get off the trails to fill up and warm up.

First of all they have Great food and a very comfortable motel close to multispecies fishing hotspots. If you don't feel At home with rooms or restraunt it's on your end as the owners and staff hold up an exceptional standard when it comes to rooms and food. RESTRAUNT 10/10: First they serve breakfast all day and a full menu sure to please everyone. Personally I had a Windy Lake Burger and it was more then I could imagine, 2 homemade patties topped with fresh topping and served quick for on the go traveler's maybe 10 mins max and that was with half full capacity. MOTEL ROOM 9/10: - Minus 1 point cause the age shows but i can respect the quality along with the price per night. Was super clean with a mini fridge and a microwave. RESTAURANT: 10/10: - huge portions at a great quality. Also very fast service. CLEANLINESS 10/10: - Room was cleaned everyday and new towels and soap ect added as needed. I didn't need much but they took care of more then I expected. LOCATION 10/10: -Depending on the adventures you have planned the location is close to many family or solo adventures. "Mine all turned out perfect" OVERALL 9.8/10: I had a great experience and would 100% recommend to anyone. All in all this is a great 1 stop shop for all your needs in the north. I believe they are even adding bait for the guests to make it even more convenient. With Gas, Propane, Rooms, Restraunt, and up and coming bait shop. Should have everything you need plus friendly conversation if you wish. I personally very much enjoyed conversing with the staff and owners. They are very passionate about bringing you the best experience possible. Not sure if there are any bad reviews, however if so I'd disregard them as this place and people here are exceptional and go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. Don't believe me take a trip for yourself and be blown away with the great northern hospitality you will experience. Cheers ?

Just came back from a few days stay at Windy Lake. (Just before the rain hit) The food is great. The fuel price is reasonable The rooms are clean and warm. Amanda & Oscar are awesome. They are very accommodating to anyone, not just people that are staying at the Motel. They even offered to leave food in our room is we were coming back late from a ride. Weather permitting i am going back there this coming weekend.
