Winchester Court

To be fair this comment doesn't apply to my entire tenancy at Wincester Court and it was great to begin with, but in the last several years under new management the place has seriously gone downhill. The final straw that has led me to review this apartment complex was the deception and absurdity I faced when leaving. In the 9 years I stayed here I was never late on a single payment, requested minimal maintenance, and never received a single complaint from a neightbour. The building is over 50 years old and it was probably decades since my place was last updated. When it came to leaving I gave plenty of notice and spent over a day and a half thoroughly cleaning the place as requested by a massive sheet of things to clean. I was told that carpet and drapes would be 'taken care of by the management', of course when I offered to leave 3 weeks early I found out that meant by taking nearly my entire deposit to pay for it. I decided to wait it out a bit longer in the month that I paid for and hand in the keys closer to the end of month. On the day of the final inspection I was told I'd face another $40 in cleaning costs for cleaning the walls and told to go the manager's office to signoff. Instead I first went to my unit, only to find it had been illegally entered (without the 24 hours required notice) so they could tear apart everything I was requested to clean (including the walls that looked like they were being repainted). Management was entirely aware of the condition of the unit prior to requesting the cleaning but made no effort to inform me that this would all be for nothing. When pressed on issues regarding the deposit they refused to provide receipts to prove my deposit was actually being used for the stated cleaning or allow me to signoff on the expenses at a later date. It was a slap in the face to someone who was a great tenant for many years. In the end I signed to put this garbage behind me once and for all; but I would advise any future prospective tenants to avoid this place or at least don't trust anything you're told by the manager. Don't bother to be courteous because they will not show any courtesy in return. I found this out the hard way.
