What is Ear, Nose, and Throat?

Ear, nose and throat (ENT) is also known by the term otolaryngology-head and neck surgery.  This medical and surgical specialty focuses on diseases in the head and neck.  From infants to the elderly, your ENT is able to diagnose, treat, and operate on a number of head and neck problems.

Otolaryngologists are trained by first getting an undergraduate degree, followed by a medical degree.  Five years of specialty training in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery follows, with some practitioners seeking out one to two years of further training in a fellowship subspecialty.  On average, most otolaryngologists receive some fifteen years of post-secondary training.

My referral for Dr. Franke was sent Sept 18 2020, on Oct.19 I phoned to see if my referral had been received and was told it was not. I called my family dr to find ot if my referral was sent and they ensured me it was sent Sept 18. At that time they said they would resend it. On Oct 21 I called to inquire if my 2nd referral had been received at which point the Receptionist said she did not have time to check if it was received and told me that I should receive a letter within a week. I said this is exactly what happened last time and just want to make sure it was received as it was an urgent referral. Her response was if you don't get a letter in a week, call again. I told her to remove my name if they receive a referral as I'll wait to see someone else. I work in health care and I completely understand that clinics, hospitals and such are busy. This is not acceptable patient care and I am getting tired of staff not having a caring attitude when they choose to work in this environment. I cannot rate the dr as I have not seen him, but knowing this is how front staff treat patients I would not want to even walk in there. When you are feeling ill, you want and need compassion.

This review is for Dr. Sharma. 5 STARS all around. Knowledgeable. Caring. He thought outside the box to fix my specific issue. From my first appointment to follow up, I felt his attention and care. I highly recommend. Thank you Dr. Sharma! I'd like to add one thing after reading other reviews - yes sometimes there is a wait times for the phone. But 2020 has been an unprecedented year, and everyone is doing their best. Allie, in reception specifically, gave me great service and knew what was going on with my case.

So I seen Dr. Sharma for a procedure in April. Stents in sinus and correct a deviated septum. While I was unconscious he made the decision to not insert the stents he had said I needed so badly. I quote β€œone of the worst sinuses I’ve seen” - Dr. Sharma. This asshat doesn’t care about his patients. He’s after $$$$. That’s it. I’ve had reoccurring migraines since a workplace accident in 2015. He’s made me worse than I ever was. I asked why I’m so dizzy now. He had no reply. Oh but wait !!! Post procedure after he told me he didn’t complete the stents he already wanted me to come back for Botox injections. Didn’t fix me. Didn’t help me. Made me worse. If I could give negative stars I would. THIS DOCTOR IS A CLOWN. CHANGE MY MIND !!

We saw Dr. Spafford in June 2020 for my son's tonsils and adenoids, hoping removal would decrease sleep apnea issues. He was very kind to my 5 year old at our initial appointment. He was quite quick to come to the conclusion that my son should probably have his tonsils removed, and told me he would check adenoids more closely on surgical date. He was very to the point, which I can appreciate from a busy doctor. He didn't scare my son with any details and was honest about the procedure's risks and recovery as well as the wait time. Fast forward to December 2020, We bought a new home and I called to make sure they had the correct address on file, in the event we were mailed a surgical date and his receptionist was lovely. She put us on the waitlist and we were lucky enough to have her call back to secure an appointment right before the new year. The surgery was quick, done well, and he avoided taking the adenoids as they thought to be an issue (I appreciated not having the extra risk during recovery). He checked in with us post op and made sure we had everything we needed. Unfortunately, my son was just one of the kids that needed a bit more than just tylenol to get through it and once he got back into the office, his receptionist passed on the message (again, very effective communication) and he responded within a couple hours to refer us to see the pediatrician on call at JPCH and gave us his information should the hospital staff need to get ahold of him for validation. Over the phone, he was very kind and understanding of the issues with pain that my son was facing. Nothing but great things to say about Dr. Spafford. The recovery is still going but we are ever grateful we were referred to Dr. Spafford.

Dr. Franke and his team are amazing! I have never had such a great experience working with a specialist in the city. He made the entire process of going for septoplasty surgery so easy and is very supportive and understanding in follow up appointments.

I have not had my surgery yet, but I just have to say how happy I am with the staff at Dr. Spafford's office. Rochelle was so helpful, and made me feel comfortable to ask questions. She is very kind and great to talk to. My consult with Dr. Spafford went well and I can tell how experienced and knowledgable he is.

Clear your schedule if you make an appointment with Dr. Franke. An hour after my appointment was supposed to start I was told it would be another hour an a half wait. Apparently no one’s time matters except his, and he thinks people don’t have jobs they need to get back to. Had to rebook for 3 months later but will obviously be looking for a doctor who has respect for other peoples time.
