About Tracken Kennels Academy

My life working with dogs began seemingly from birth.  Raised by a highly respected dog breeder and handler that produced generations of Champions in North America, my mother was the first to mentor me to be a balanced, and ethical breeder and handler, to preserve and improve upon the German Shepherd breed.  One thing I know for certain, my learning is a lifetime journey!

I started to compete as an owner/handler in the mid-eighties placing in Best Puppy in Group, Winners, Best of Breed, and more in confirmation.  While training under a Schutzhund trainer in the Quebec Region recognized by The German Shepherd Schutzhund Club of Canada with my small but mighty young male “Courage”.  This ignited my passion and desire to further my experience and knowledge in IPO and broaden my skillsets.

Over the years I learned a wide range of skills in obedience, personal protection, scent, and tracking from trainers in Quebec, Ontario, BC, and Alberta. I am grateful for all the opportunities to have schooled under every one of them.

As a member of the German Shepherd Club of British Columbia, my late girl Sasha was recognized for her quality of obedience and beauty.  I was approached by a respected animal trainer for Television and Film in Vancouver, BC.  We had the privilege to work alongside him and his team to train us for movie parts in which Sasha became a successful Film and TV star and she knew it!

I am also on an elite international team and the only Canadian Certified Natural Horsemanship Trainer under highly renowned Mr. Frank Bell also known as “The Horse Whisperer” specializing in off-track thoroughbreds and show jumping.

Growing up you would often find me horse riding, galloping in an open field with a German shepherd by my side.  I am a retired Executive Manager of over 20 years, a member of The Canadian Association of Professional Dog Trainers and The Canadian Kennel Club.  As a dog lover and a breeder of the German Shepherd, it is my joy and happiness to breed quality German Shepherds and help people create a stronger bond with their canine companions of all breeds, sizes, and shapes.

My program is based on a balanced approach.  This approach to dog training along with years of experience with behavior modification has paved the way to how I train today.  Balanced training teaches your canine desired behaviors using a reward as reinforcement of correct behaviors.

I shape and capture desirable behaviors, and reinforce them to increase their probability. Balanced training does not involve inflicting pain or fear on your canine to force results. It uses all four quadrants of canine behavior to enhance and strengthen your relationship with trust, love, loyalty, and understanding. The evolution of a balanced dog and owner makes an unstoppable team!

Tracey and her staff are incredible. My pup and I have almost completed the first level of training and from what she has taught and the homework she has given, the progress is incredible. She takes the time during sessions to help individuals who are struggling in specific areas and tailers certain techniques to best fit the dog and owner. She encourages a focus on the bond between you and your dog, and teaches you how to develop this to command focus and obedience. I’ve also utilized her daycare and my puppy came home so happy! They were so patient with him and understanding when he spent most of “quiet time” barking.

My husband and I brought home an 11mth old Black Lab about 8 months ago. He has a heart of gold, highly intelligent but has had no social skills with other dogs - or any animals for that matter. None whatsoever. Dog parks have never been an option for us and visiting friends with dogs became very difficult. We tried a variety of different things between collar types, books, videos and other trainers but we were definitely out of our depth. Our ultimate goal was to work on social skills (along with recall and a few other things) so that he could be around other animals in our close circle of friends and family. Camping, christmas..all of a sudden these things had become very stressful. Other trainers wanted to take us for our money. Put us through weeks of expensive programs but never really listened to what we wanted to achieve or anything we really said. But then we found Tracey. And we knew from the first phone call she was different. She took time out of her day to listen to our situation. Asked questions that showed us she was listening and understood where we were coming from. Completely absorbed all of our concerns and frustrations, then gave us solutions. We scheduled our official intro appointment and never looked back. It was the turning point where we had some relief. We have been working with Tracey for a few weeks now, and the progress from each appointment is mind blowing. We leave with a new dog each time. She is patient with us, clear, communicative, engaged and never makes us feel rushed despite how busy we can only imagine her day is. Because of Tracey we can now introduce him to other dogs, pass other dogs on the same sidewalk and more. We are almost at our end goal without breaking the bank, and we have tools and confidence to manage all kinds of situations that we hadn’t even considered yet. We can not recommend Tracey enough. For owners and puppies alike. She is a game changer.

Tracey is an EXCELLENT trainer. She is honest, caring, extremely knowledgeable, and passionate about what she does. I brought my 2 year old Leonberger for level 1 training and with Tracey’s guidance, Hudson learned how to excel at the basics of obedience. We will be returning to Level 2 when she offers it next. If are you wanting to take your dog in for training and are able to do the homework necessary to pass the exam, there is no one I would recommend more than Tracey!

Oakley my German Shepherd started her level 1 obedience classes with Tracken Kennels Academy when she was a baby 12 weeks old and did really well. It was me that struggled. Tracey was fantastic with Supporting me become comfortable with my new dog. I decided that we needed to continue with level 1 classes until I felt comfortable enough to move on. I was so proud of Oakley and my self when we were used by Tracey as her support in class that I now know that I can move to the next Level. Oakley also attends her great doggie daycare which is not just a place that allows the dogs to run around but has interesting things for them to do throughout their day and I have found it to be a reasonably priced to support Oakley with her energy levels as well as her socializing and interactions with other dogs. Tracken Kennels Academy also do boarding which we will be using in just over a week and I know that she will love her stay with Tracey and her great staff as they genuinely care about the dogs and the clients they help. Would recommend this place to any one with big or small dogs as well as dogs and owners that have some issues as Tracey will be able to help.

We began with Tracey at Tracken Kennels in June 2021. Our female German Shepherd Mocha was a year and 3 months. She knew the basic commands, but couldn't be around other dogs without trying to attack them and couldn't focus on any of the commands if there were any distractions around (humans, dogs or new environments). My family wasn't comfortable taking her for walks because she pulled on the leash the whole time and was extremely strong. She'd run after rabbits, dogs and cats and would go missing during walks after chasing something. We started with level 1 obedience and it was a challenge. At almost every class, I was so frustrated with Mocha I'd consider quitting due to exhaustion in trying to control her. We attended every class and put in the required time between classes and by the end of the course, Mocha finished at the top of the class. We then went on to complete Levels 2 and 3. Now, all members of our family are comfortable taking her out by themselves, and we only bring along a leash for legal reasons; we don't need it anymore to control her. Tracey is also very fair. We joined level 2 late, missing 2 classes. When it came time for the assessment, she could have told us that we needed to make up the extra classes before doing the assessment, and we would have paid for them. However, she felt we were ready and told us we didn't need the extra classes, so she saved us that money. This was all before she even had the new facility! We can't thank Tracey enough.

If you need a professional who can take care of your pup while you’re away, or help addressing any issue you might have with your canine trainer - Tracey is definitely the right person. Our dog loves her as much as we do! And we are proud to be Tracken Kennels Academy members. Also the new indoor facility is just amazing - so spacious, clean and beautiful!

We went for a 1 hour private training with Tracey 1 week ago with our reactive dog. We didn’t have much hope because Willow was pretty intense. Tracey gave us amazing tips on how to act with Willow and how to train her at home. We are a family that loves to hike, go camping and do all sort of activities - with our dogs. And with Willow it was impossible, she would bark and do all kind of crazy noises, she would pull on the leash pretty hard… which was pretty frustrating and embarrassing. We did everything Tracey told us and guess what? We are in a camping right now with a lot of dogs and humans and she doesn’t even care. She reacts a little if they get too close but nothing compared to what it was. This is AMAZING. with only a 1 hour training. I can’t wait for the group training. ? We are so happy that our Willow is finally a little more confident and will be able to live a life stress free. ? THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
