Town of Banff - Banff

4.6/5 based on 8 reviews

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity, and truth, we honour and acknowledge that the townsite of Banff is located on traditional Treaty 7 territory. These sacred lands are a gathering place for the Niitsitapi from the Blackfoot Confederacy, of whom the  Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani First Nations are part; the Îyârhe Nakoda of the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations; the Tsuut’ina First Nation; the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III within the historical Northwest Métis Homeland, and many others whose histories, languages, and cultures continue to enrich our vibrant community.

The Bow Valley has also long been important to the Ktunaxa and Secwépemc First Nations who traditionally occupied lands and used the watersheds of the Columbia and Kootenay Rivers and the eastern slopes of the Rockies. The area was also used by the Mountain Cree clan of Chief Peechee, and the Dene of the far north and far south.

The Town of Banff is continuously learning about the rich and complex histories of Indigenous peoples in this region and is working to refine how the organization can better understand and acknowledge Indigenous peoples that have and continue to contribute to the area. We recognize the land as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on, or are visiting and acknowledge the many First Nations and Métis who have lived in and cared for these lands for generations.

Banff is Beauty and the beast. Unfortunately I didn’t have the best experience with by law. It’s a tourist city and I expect they would be more informative about speed limit in the city and parking upfront. We are new to the area and takes time to be familiar to the city. I got speed ticket and questioned when talking to bylaw to give me discount. It turned my beautiful dreamy stay to tears. Although I was planning to come again in a few years sadly I don’t feel coming back to Banff. One time is enough.

We are from the US and came to visit this wonderful area, but I was truly dumbstruck by the parking situation in your town. First we saw " pay online" sign, the walked a little bit to see a machine for parking. It was being used and we also saw "pay online" on the side of that machine. We never saw, pay immediately, here's how to pay online, or any other type of explanation on your parking. You get a lot of visitors so I'm surprised there isn't an explanation at every site. Anyway, we thought we'd move on and pay when we return, but instead found a ticket. We went to pay the $36 and was just asked to pay the ticket price. If that is how you will treat your quests, I'm sure most will not be happy. I would have been happy to pay whatever the cost is to park downtown ,and I still have no clue what that price is. We have 2 more days here and they will not involve any downtown time. I will never be here again- you made that decision easy...or is that what you want?

August 2021. Small town but lots of visitors and activities. Nice shops. Free parkings are limited. They converted lots of free parking spaces before into pay parking. Still, worth the 2 hours drive from Calgary.

A nice little town in Banff with a concentrated selection of stores, restaurants and mini malls! Generally crowded especially during weekends and holidays but there’s enough space to feel comfortable. Many unique shops around including gift shops and restaurants that you won’t find anywhere else. Many viewpoints and trailheads nearby as well as a multitude of historic sites and buildings! Check this town out at least once if you visit the Banff area!
