I cannot recommend MTMS enough. As someone who's had about a dozen music teachers, I can confidently say that MTMS is staffed with very knowledgeable, extremely qualified musicians. I've been taking piano lessons with Dr. Karen Broadhurst for four years now and harmony lessons with David Stone for about a year. Karen clearly understands my strengths and weaknesses, which she takes into consideration when we select pieces for exams and when she creates lesson plans. David is an accomplished composer who understands that a student not only needs to understand the rules and conventions of harmony, but why these rules exist and "work" in the first place. Both of my teachers have provided me with plenty of opportunities to participate in festivals, student and adult recitals, and competitions that have allowed me to grow as a musician and a performer. Together, they've helped me receive 3 university acceptances for music programs, as well as pass several RCM piano and theory levels (sometimes only within a matter of months!). The school is conveniently located with a bus stop right in front of the building, and the subway station is only a couple of minutes away. All of the staff are friendly and expert, and clearly care about the development of their students. I can say with absolute confidence that I can think of no better place for me to have chosen to study music.

We've been with this school for last 5 years, and very happy with our experience. All teachers are very educated and professional. The school organizes events that are so important and memorable - like sing anthem on Marlies game. Kids love to learn music while also making friends.

Three years ago I decided to start playing the piano again after many decades. After taking weekly lessons for two years, I felt that I was attempting to play pieces that were too difficult and getting frustrated. I decided I needed to change and in my search found ToMA. I called David, explained what was going on. I had a sense that David understood, invited me for a face-to-face meeting and the rest is history. David patiently took me back to basics, outlined a detailed process and over the past year I have learned more about music, music theory and a deep appreciation of music than I thought possible. I feel very fortunate to be with such a caring, talented professional and wonderful organization David has created with Toronto Music Alliance.

Warning: only enroll here if you're interested in musical growth of epic proportions, which you didn't even realize you're capable of. TLDR: teachers who will not only superbly educate and instruct, but guide you through your journey to your musical goals. I've been taking double bass lessons from David Stone, the owner, director, etc. of the school, for around 9 or 10 months. I had previous experience with other instruments but had never played the double bass before, and so I decided to at least give it a try. Turns out I love it and consider it my main instrument now, and thanks to David I've made amazing progress!! He excels at helping any individual develop natural, relaxed technique, as well as artistry and musical fluency, on their instrument. He's very encouraging to his students, as well as honest and realistic, and his own passion for music is very contagious. Part way through I've also started taking theory and composition lessons from him, and I must say that the school really lives up to it's slogan of "making music make sense". David makes it all concise and easy to understand, yet his teaching is still super thorough. His lessons are really well thought-out and planned from the beginning, and he makes them fun and interesting, having blown my mind several times in one theory lesson. All of the teachers are very professional, friendly and knowledgeable, and are high-caliber musicians themselves. They are invested in your journey towards your musical goals, and they know the best way to get you there, and make the journey a delightful and exciting one as well! You'll find someone who's a great fit whether you're looking for someone to teach your child, aspiring to become a professional musician, wanting to simply improve your skills or knowledge, or anywhere in between.

A very positive learning and growing experience. David Stone is always encouraging, contributing to my daughter’s success. Online learning worked very well. Our music lessons didn’t miss a beat.

My 7 year-old daughter started piano lessons with David last September. It was honestly one of the silver linings of this pandemic! It was magical watching the two of them develop a relationship (through all virtual lessons) and see her deepen her love for music and become a little pianist.

It's honestly hard to truly express how amazing my time with the Toronto Music Alliance has been. My lessons with David are easily the highlight of my week, even when we're doing music theory, something that bored me to DEATH in high school music classes. I've been playing music for a while, piano when I was younger and oboe when I was in middle & high school, and I enjoyed all of it, but these last ~11 months of learning bass with David has made me truly LOVE music. David is a phenomenal instructor, if not one of the best, and I've come so far with his help. He is honest and realistic, but also one of the most encouraging and caring people I've met. I wish I had started music lessons with him a long time ago. I've only been playing Bass for about a year now, but I can guarantee that I'm not going anywhere. I really look forward to the many years of learning ahead of me with David and the Toronto Music Alliance team.

Few years ago we took the kids from Yamaha school to Toronto Music alliance for one on one lessons... It has been great experience and I should say David is putting a lot of heart to manage this school. He pay attention to a lot of details from setup classes to organize concerts and recitals for students. And more important are the teachers. we have worked with 3 of them, all professional and passionate and we glad our kids have a chance to learn from them.
