On impulse we bought a house on the perfect lot, in the perfect location, but the interior was circa 1978 complete with orange carpeting, rotting window frames, and sunken living room. Then came the issue of how to find the right contractor to build our dream home. We interviewed several contractors and settled on Timber Wolff, primarily because Rod Wolff (founder and co-owner) was clearly the most transparent and honest of the bunch. We felt that we were safe with him and we had heard from others that they do excellent work on ‘high-end homes’, so we hired him. Timber Wolff is a small family owned company in the Calgary area. Rod and his son, Nick Wolff, are the owners, and together they have a large network of sub-contractors and suppliers. It doesn’t matter what they need or need to have done…..they have the right guy for the job. After interacting with several of the subs/suppliers it became evident to us that TW has a great reputation in the industry, and we benefitted because of it, with superior service and better pricing. Our renovation involved building an entire new home inside the exterior structure of an old condo. Rod, Dave and team vaulted the ceiling and then raised a beam in the basement to elevate the height of the basement ceiling as well. Our designer (Uniik Design) was innovative and planned for many modern features that most homes don’t have (eg. LED strip lighting in the ceiling, a 40 ft 3D feature wall with 2 hidden doors, custom-made large ring (4 – 6 ft diameter) pendant uplights and more). The TW team was eager to provide these features for us, and got busy figuring out how to make it all work right away. The special design features are one part of what makes our home one-of-a-kind, but the other factor is excellent workmanship. From the basics of wall construction to installation of the floor, custom cabinetry and millwork in most rooms, well planned tile installation, state-of-the-art lighting and “smart home” installation, all subcontractors gave us excellent quality and beautiful work. In the few circumstances where the result was not great, Dave (site supervisor) had the job re-done until it met his satisfaction, which always meant that we were pleased with the result. Rod and the TW team are highly competent, hard-working, time efficient and fun. There was not one person or supplier on the team that we didn’t like. They all did their best to please us, so the build from start to finish was a happy experience for all of us. Timber Wolff is completely transparent and more than fair to the client about their billing structure and process. Each subcontractor is treated fairly as well, but is held to the original cost quoted. Our project came in at the expected cost with the only overruns being because we added to the scope of the build. Our new home is truly our ‘forever’ home. When compared to our friend’s renovations, ours is jaw-dropping and of high quality wherever you look. It is clear to us, that Timber Wolff gave us a lot more bang for significantly less money, and to top it all off we are still friends at the end of the project. What more could you ask for? We highly recommend Timber Wolff to anyone for any project, big or small. If they say they can do it, they will, and you will be pleased with the result. It’s as simple as that.
