This area is home to the lovely Shack Island. Many people have driven the heights and looked down upon the multi-coloured shacks with envy. At one time or another they have probably thought to themselves: "Yes. I could give it all up and go live there. " And, although the reality is you can't go live there, you can cross to the island from the adjacent Pipers Lagoon Park at a low time.

A unique place full of colourful buildings and history. Long before Nanaimo ever believed it would expand North, fisherman built shacks to sleep in after a long day fishing and selling their catch. Passed along to family members, folks still enjoy the peace and quiet while fishing/crabbing etc. We visited the area and were openly welcomed by some folks who stay there in the summer. Great area to explore, history being preserved and friendly folks with great stories.

Jan.11/2020. Three Lagoon Islands Park. I like the new name on a park over the one on era gone by. The islands are accessed only at low tide. A great area to rome around.Take a camera and take note of the time the tide changes.Play safe.

Make sure you have a kayak or paddle board to visit this historic fishing village found next to pipers lagoon in Nanaimo British Columbia. You can walk to the island but the tide needs to be very low and it doesn’t last for long. If your waking you dog, be carful as the thousands of broken shells are very sharpe and can cut the bottom of their feet.
