About The Spice Trail And The Lounge Trishna

About

अतिथिदेवो भव
“Atithi Devo Bhav”

This Ancient Sanskrit term simply translates to “Be one for whom thy guest is god.” This phrase eloquently captures the essence of the philosophy of hospitality of the Indian Sub-Continent.

As early as 6000 B.C the Aryans arrived in the area and established themselves in the North and drove the original natives the Dravidians to the south. Thus began the influx of different customs, traditions and beliefs that has shaped the evolution of this very varied and diverse culture. Since prehistoric times India has been the hub of the spice trade and was an important junction on the Silk Road which undoubtedly was the ancient superhighway of trade and culture. In those times, camel caravans of traders, soldiers, travelers and philosophers plied the various routes that connected Europe to the Far East. This hunger for spice drove a wave of exploration that culminated in the discovery of the Americas. Along the way various cultures, civilisations and beliefs were assimilated, and Spice played an ineffable part in the history of our modern world.

The Silk trade which famously gave its name to this road only came into play much later. It was actually the magic of spices that drove traders on journeys across these ancient routes. Hence it is our ode to this ancient trade route that we have named our establishment “THE SPICE TRAIL.”

The fabled Spice Trail facilitated enormous interaction in the spheres of commerce, sciences, arts and mathematics amongst the peoples of the areas it connected. In the culinary world, local cuisines were exposed to oriental influences and led to the use of varied ingredients and cooking styles, bringing about a revolution in the preparation and enjoyment of food worldwide.

We at The Spice Trail would like to introduce you to this medley of taste influences, and bring to your table a fusion of these flavours in your normal everyday food. We aim to delight your senses with our enticing symphony in spice.

Definitely one of my favourite restaurants in town! It has definitely made its mark. We love the whole menu and prefer a La carte to buffet. My favourite items include the butter chicken, Khodi pakora, non vegetarian sizzler, Biriyani, all of the breads, and the fish pakora!

Great food and service - thanks Sheena! Portions were generous and probably the best garlic naan I’ve ever tasted! Decor was nice and authentic, shahi paneer, saag and garlic naans are a must try. Will definitely be back if I’m in the area again.

Tandoori chicken legs ? were very good. Same with the butter chicken combo with Naan. Everything was piping hot (temp). The spicy rating was on the North American scale and not the Indian scale. Indian medium is usually quite spicy, but the medium that I got here was very mild. Not a deal beaker at all though. Better safe than sorry! Next time will be spicy.

I absolutely love this place! They have a full page full of vegetarian options. The owner is really nice and super down to earth. The server messed up on my drink order and he was more than happy to fix it right away. I love this spot and will always come back for atmosphere, food, and staff.

Service 3.5/5; Food 2/5; Seating area 2/5 Food was okay, but I've had better Indian Cuisine. Plus we found hair in one dish. Blah... gross. Portions were quite small for the price per dish. We needed to order more Chutney because the amount they gave us were the size of 1 tablespoon. They tried to seat us in an area where the seating was very uncomfortable. We had to ask for a booth for more comfortable seating. They should actually replace all the chairs, there's absolutely no cushion. Overall...service was good, but we had to ask them to remove our plates, because dessert was ordered.

Such an incredible, underrated place. Just tried it for a second time, and its so good! We ordered appetizers and main dishes, all of which surpassed my already high expectations. Everything was super fresh. The staff was super friendly, and made us feel as if we were already regulars. Love the atmosphere, especially the cozy booths ( great for dates!) We will definitely be coming back! Thanks everyone at Spice Trail!
