The Planted Earth Greenhouses - Red Deer County

Spring 2022 - We are thrilled to announce that we will be open Monday through Saturday from 10 am - 1 pm for your shopping convenience.

Plants may also be ordered online by email or by fax. We can arrange for you to pick them up here or a delivery service will be available.

The Planted Earth was opened in 2004 with one greenhouse.  Since then, we have expanded and evolved to carry plants for many of your gardening needs. Flowering bedding plants, herbs, vegetable transplants and vines can be found at our rural retail location.

We create many hanging baskets and decorative containers and we also sell the basket filler items used in our basket and planter combinations.  Hundreds of varieties are available for sale in single pots for customers to design their own combinations at home and in their gardens.  We also offer creative baskets and planters that are designed to tolerate full sun such as mandevilla, supertunia,  perilla, calibrachoa and other mixtures.  For shade containers, we carry fuchsia, begonias, impatiens and many coleus combinations.

In addition to starting our plants from branded plugs, we have a large variety of annual plants that we grow from seed such as vegetable transplants, pansies, petunias, dusty miller, lobelia, and marigolds. These annual plants are sold as four-packs, either singly or by the flat.

We enjoy trying new herbs and using them as tasty natural flavorings containing no fat, no salt, no cholesterol, and few, if any calories.  We preserve our extra herbs by drying, freezing or processing into pesto or flavoured oils.  We grow multiple varieties of basil, mint, oregano,  rosemary, and thyme as well as other popular selections like cilantro, parsley and lavender.

We grow a wide variety of both heirloom and hybrid tomatoes.    We also grow  Tumbler tomatoes in 10” and 12” hanging baskets.  We guarantee 75 tomatoes on our 10” Tumbler basket and 125 tomatoes on our 12” Tumbler basket.
