About The Morden Corn & Apple Festival

Community Events have always been of prime importance to the Morden and District Chamber of Commerce.  It was the Chamber who first saw the potential in the idea for a community festival when it was suggested by the retail merchants in 1965. A committee was set to gauge interest and it was decided that the new event would be launched as part of Canada’s Centennial Celebrations in 1967.

Humble Beginning

The first festival was held over two days on two blocks along Stephen Street. Merchants encouraged their staff to dress in centennial costumes and there was a parade featuring local organizations. The Miss Corn & Apple Queen Pageant was held in the parking lot of the Town of Morden and Rural Municipality of Stanley offices at the corner of Nelson Street and Stephen Street and about 200 cobs of corn were given away along with apple cider.

In 1983 the Chamber hired a summer student to help administer the Festival and with the help of annual employment grants was able to provide an incredible work experience to many young Morden residents ever since.

In 2010 the Morden Corn & Apple Festival entered a new era by taking responsibility for its own administration. The Board of Directors contracted with former Chamber of Commerce Manager to administer the Festival Board of Directors capital programs as well as the Festival Committee operations.

A Conscious Effort

The Festival conducted an Economic Impact Assessment to determine the actual value of the Festival to the community and the surrounding area and in the future the Board intends to work on strategies to improve traffic flow, parking, crowd movement, etc (Click the link to view the report). This is just the start of many new ideas and opportunities of which the Board is now better placed to take advantage.

A New Home

In 2012 the administration settled into an office at 200 – 379 Stephen St, on the corner of Stephen Street and Nelson Street. In 2020, after completion of the new building on the site, the Festival moved into a brand new office at 13-379 Stephen street. If you are looking for the office during the Morden Corn & Apple Festival, we are right beside the Free Corn area.

It's always chaos. But this time we enjoyed the mud bog, dirt track racing, some amazing food, and a combine pull. This year was a different style of the festival. But liked it

Going to the Morden Corn and Apple festival is a family tradition dating back to the early years of my father, and every year we visit Canada we stay on for this exact event. Going there you can always be sure of a great time. And I especially love going with my family. Is a time of memories nostalgia and times gone by and long forgotten. But when visiting there, those memories are sure to come back.

Prior to gaining some mobility limitations, I had enjoyed this festival for many years (unless you have mobility issues, you'll likely enjoy this very much); this year was my partner's first time at the festival. I was surprised to experience how non accessable this event can be. The vendors that line the streets create very congested narrow pedestrian waking areas, with many tripping, uneven surfaces. If you are not able to sit/stand in line do not expect to try _any_ of the corn; (understandably) there is also no where you can purchase hot corn from the festival if you are not physically able to endure the line. Also like many other festivals, do not expect to see much if any accessable parking. If you have young children, do not get too close to the stream engine. It's really cool to look at, but if the whistle goes off, and you're too close, even adults may injur their hearing. Sincerely a great festival, but there are areas that could be improved regarding accessablity.

Corn and apple is the busiest festival I've ever seen. Some parts are great and some are not. The streets of Morden are great to host the festival but it's to tight you can't always get by the mass amounts of people. Great food, great music. Car show is always amazing too

We try and go every year. Always a great family time. Lots of good food, fun rides for the kids. I was a bit disappointed with the parade, mostly local businesses trucks and cars with a few balloons. Very few floats. what ever happened to floats? Also huge combines driving down the street with no security. Lots of free stuff to do, bands playing steady and not just country! Good time!

I used to get fresh cider at the Festival. Now it is little fairlee containers of apple juice. The information that we found said that the dinosaur exhibit was free. It wasn't. We couldn't find the historic bus drive or where anything was. I liked the signs to say where some stuff was but it still was confusing. My son's had fun though which was the whole point of going. Oh and the corn was yummy.

Been there two years in a row now. Will go again for sure. Enjoy the atmosphere and community endeavors to support the weekend. Lots to do and many places to eat at. Only thing I would suggest is going Saturday as the stores are open to go and see. Sunday they are all closed. Also love the free corn! Line up sucks though.
