We have been so happy with piano lessons for my 4 (and now 5) year old, both virtual and in-person (when allowed!)

My child (7 years old) has been studying violin with Hayley Janes at Upper Beaches Music School since August 2015. I am impressed every week by the amount of care, patience and planning that Hayley puts into each lesson. (We attend twice/week with Hayley - first for our private lesson and for an additional group class.) These are not the dry, humorless music classes that I experienced as a child. Hayley consistently looks for ways to tie the lesson concepts to fun and exciting activities, that keep the lessons engaging. I am amazed on a regular basis by Hayley's creativity and imagination when it comes to problem solving areas that are challenging for my daughter. She regularly draws from her arsenal of kawaii erasers (to help practice correct posture), drinking straws (to help guard against bowing too close to the finger board), bunion cushions (pinkie house!), and more, to make the difficult mechanics and technique accessible (and memorable). There is something about the calm that Hayley projects that really clicks with my daughter. Hayley does an amazing job of refocusing E's (sometimes) distracted-after-a-long-day-at-school-energy. My daughter feels totally comfortable to make mistakes with Hayley! This doesn't sound like much - but for her, it is a HUGE deal. Hayley is patient and kind and non-judgemental. Both Hayley and Rebecca Lane have been wonderful to deal with on a practical and administrative level as well. They are responsive to questions (big or small) by email, super enthusiastic, and terrifically supportive of their young students. They have been extremely accommodating to any weird requests that I have had with scheduling or time conflicts. I have truly appreciated how diligent Hayley has been to make up any lessons that we have missed (and I should say - it has always been US cancelling on her, not the other way around!) My daughter has made amazing progress in the past year and a half. Because of the wonderful recitals that we have attended (held in the Winter and Spring), I can also report that all of the students - even the tiniest are given the opportunity to showcase their hard work- are making progress. Most obvious is the level of confidence (in themselves and in their playing) that the Upper Beaches team inspires in the students. I strongly believe that I made the best decision for our family when I chose to study with Upper Beaches. I intend to enroll my youngest daughter (4 years old) to begin her own lessons next year. She has witnessed her sister's enthusiasm and is dying to play too!

We have had a great experience here for violin for my daughter and piano and cello for my son. Enthusiastic teachers who use different methods to help both my kids who have very different personalities, and to encourage them to practice. Lessons are disciplined but also fun and the music school itself is clean and close to TTC which is very convenient. Definitely recommend.

Rebecca Lane was both my daughters' first violin teacher, and she will feel like a part of our family forever. We have such special memories of her child-friendly techniques, and warm teaching style. Knowing that she is hand picking a team for the Suzuki program at Upper Beaches Music School should give prospective parents and students extremely high confidence in their choice of school.

As members of UBMS for the last three years, I cannot say enough about the incredible and enriching learning experience the school has created for our family. Our daughters have grown so much under the guidance of their violin and piano teachers and I've received wonderful support as a parent navigating through practices, new milestones and first recitals. UBMS offers the perfect mix of fun, engaging lessons and musical rigour. At every recital, I'm blown away by the level of talent that's nurtured in the school and how much growth I see in students year over year. I would highly recommend UBMS to any parent looking to begin a journey in music with their child.

Love this music school. My daughters decided at the advanced age of 12 that they wanted to begin violin and piano lessons. They were a bit concerned about being "too old" - but 2 years in, they have extended their lessons from 30 to 60 minutes, and enjoy every session. The teachers are excellent, and the school is exceptionally well run with professionalism and passion - so glad we discovered Rebecca and her team. Looking forward to another great year. I highly recommend both their instructors - Bailey (piano) and Gemma (violin) - as evidenced in their eagerness to practice without being asked!

My five year old has been loving her violin lessons with Jamie and Adrian. She has fun and feels motivated to keep going through online lessons. UBMS goes above and beyond to keep students engaged and to foster a life-long appreciation for music.

We love UBMS! Our piano teacher Meg is great with our girls, keeps their interest piqued but also pushes them to learn and practice piano at a higher level each week. They are a very organized school with great resources and options, you won’t be disappointed choosing UBMS :)
