Do nothing to help. This place makes peoples mental health worse, not better.

Creepy, horrible place. Desperate ppl screaming, placed in restraints, crying old ladies begging someone, anyone to help them stop ECT. Nurses busy handing ppl neurotoxins and writing notes. Doctors practising this faux pretend “medical specialty” clueless, throwing mud at a wall, seemingly oblivious to “first do no harm”. Avoid this kind of “help”, it will drive you to suicide.

To be honest there isn’t much anyone can do about one’s mental health, like there’s no solution. However, a lot of lack for care from the staff is shown at Dube. You meet nice, relatable people here but I wouldn’t recommend it if you want staff who prioritize you 24/7.

I’m disgusted with what has happened in the care of the people that work here. This past weekend my little sister was able to attempt suicide under their care, she almost succeeded this time but luckily she was revived with cpr but has been in the icu since Sunday night but was just woke this late morning. A time prior that she was admitted into their care they left doors unlocked which then she was able to escape which also another minor did during this event as well and nobody stopped them. I definitely think they need better training or there needs to me more staff. Where is the care for people trying to better themselves, when they aren’t being payed attention too!?

I was in the kid's area and they did nothing to help. I met friends which I still somewhat have which was the only good thing about going there. I was able to get out easily and when I needed to be admitted to be watched constantly so I wouldn't cut they said they couldn't. I have attempted many times after and always fail. The worst place to be and I hope that people never have to see Dr hollinady. I don't know how it is spelled but it's pronounced (hol-in-au-dee). Instead of going here get a counsellor because they couldn't get one for me.

My son has gone to emergency several times seeking help. They finally admitted him for 1 night only. They were awful to deal with when our daughter was there as well. I would never let another child of mine see Dr, Ehmann

Dube is merely a holding center to keep you safe if you're planning or at risk of suicide- but has no resources or offers any support to actually help you recover. My son has been admitted 5 times in 3 years due to very severe mental illness. I frankly don't plan to take him to emergency again as it just makes him feel even more alone & desperate than if he wasn't admitted. This province is atrocious in regards to providing mental health care or services- partly because your own psychiatrist can't even admit you to the hospital- but also due to a severe lack of resources in this province. I think Dube was not great - but a bit better years ago. Now it's extremely overcrowded - usually takes waiting at emergency 3 days before even getting admitted-& once you are do very little in the way of personal care or any mental health support. Then they discharge you as quickly as possible due to the huge amount of people waiting for beds. One of the last times we admitted my son a homeless person was admitted before my son. I can't comment on the mental health of that person but can say he kept making calls in the emergency waiting room to family & made it obvious he was trying to get admitted so he had a place to sleep. That's a whole different issue - I felt horrible for the man but the psyche ward is for those severely mentally incapacitated- at risk of self harm or suicide. The homeless man got a bed before my son . If I'm truly honest I had to go to the front desk & demand my son had somewhere to sleep after we'd been in the emergency waiting room from 7am the previous day - to 1:30am the next morning - or he'd have slept yet again in the waiting room. They had a shorter term place for admitting people with severe mental illness on his last hospital stay which was a bit better than Dube - but not by much. It breaks my heart to have to voice this - but if we don't share our negative experiences trying to access mental health treatment facilities nothing will ever change. Not that a negative review can do much aside from educate the public about how horrible & challenging accessing help can be. Best of luck to anyone else struggling with our Mental Healthcare system.
