The Coffee Project at The Root Cellar

So, I love the root cellar. I have been shopping there for produce for about 10 years. Good people. My beef isn't with them. The coffee shop is another matter. Spending 5 or 10 bucks on a coffee and a sausage roll is a great way accompaniment to your shopping, however, I have REPEATEDLY asked the coffee shop to carry some (non-stevia) sweetener, but they refuse. I have told many many staff (both in the coffee shop and at the till in the grocery) about this, and even came on a Saturday to ask the coffee shop manager why this simple thing can't be done. I was told he would be in, but nope. So, what's up Coffee Project? When I pay a premium for coffee, why can't I get this simple thing taken care of? So lame.

Needs some customer service training at the coffee counter. Went this past Saturday to the wonderful Root Cellar shop to get some fruit and veg. Pulled my bored young son around the shop but promised him we'd get him a soft serve ice cream at the coffee stall when done. He's a good kid and earned it. Presented at coffee counter at 5:59 (glanced at watch out of habit only because a young lady was behind the counter doing her own thing and not paying attention to customers (i.e. us)). Eventually I had to find my voice: "Excuse me, could we have one soft serve cone please?". Response: "Sorry, we close at 6". Me (with hopeful expression): "Could you just do one last cone? I've been dragging this young man around the shop and promised him a cone...[looking at watch]...and it's just 6pm now.". Response: "Sorry, I've already closed the till" [Looking away, walking away] "Thank you". Now this will not be the most traumatic event in my son's life, and it's probably even a good lesson now and then to suffer a little disappointment over what was clearly a first world problem. That said, I can think of several ways this could have been handled better (ranging from using one of the other tills at the store that were open until 8pm to perhaps at least just skipping the walk away "Thank you"). I am not looking for subservience, but I still remember my student days as a server and there's nothing wrong with at least trying to appear helpful. I was even more dumbfounded 10 minutes later at the main grocery till when the very nice cashier helping us had to call a manager to confirm an unmarked price - and it turned out that uncaring coffee stall lady is a manager! Root Cellar is a lovely shop but this person should not be in a customer facing role.

Happy helpful staff, great products but ridiculously slow order delivery. If you order more than 2 drinks expect luke warm drinks by the time your order is ready.

lovely place! has some tables where you can sit outside, and had lots of other options if you’re not a coffee person. i got the chai latte and it was good! boyfriend said to say that the croissant was super good too!

Cold brew tasted good! And I just really liked the vibe and the environment, staff members were really friendly too!

Good coffee and nice seating area outside of the shop! I ordered the Americano and my boyfriend ordered the cold brew - would love to try their snacks next time!

I just had the best (special) hot chocolate from Nicole today! Ohh my! It was just perfect. She promised she’ll make me a hot chocolate with her special mixing (it’s def her secret), specially because I order this almost everyday. Wait, order what? ( hot chocolate with oat milk with a sprinkle of cinnamon) And I cannot tell you how good Nicole’s hot chocolate was! THANK YOU Nicole!
