About Swartz Fine Fashions

ABOUT SWARTZ

In 1906, Nathan Swartz opened the doors to his clothing store, Swartz Standard Clothing.

Over the years the name of the business changed to reflect changes in direction and emerging fashion trends to evolve into the current flagship store, Swartz Fine Fashions.

During the 100 year history of the business, only two changes of ownership occurred. Nathan's son in law, Sam Blumenthal, ran the business from 1960 to 1979, when upon retirement he sold to the current owner, Jim Shaen. Recently Jim's son Christopher has taken a keen interest in fashion and the marketing end of the business and now joins his father in the daily operations of the store to ensure the proud family tradition continues.

Keeping abreast of changes in fashion trends, and in order to provide outstanding customer service, the store has expanded over the years to accommodate a larger inventory of upscale Men's and Women's collections featuring world class labels like Hugo Boss, Belstaff, Diesel and Brax.

As Thunder Bay's premier fashion retailer, Jim and Christopher Shaen continue to update and add to their collections with a focus on maintaining the latest in designer labels while providing unparalleled customer service.

As Nathan Swartz once said, "Whether it's buying a suit or a pair of socks, I want to ensure that every customer that walks through our door realizes an unforgettable shopping experience."

Swartz Fine Fashions, the tradition continues...

I've been shopping here for over 13 years and for a good reason. Chris always has an excellent selection of premium men's clothing at a reasonable price. He is extremely helpful, has excellent product knowledge and truly seems passionate about his product. There have been multiple occasions where he has gone above and beyond for me and I am truly grateful to receive such great service from a local dealer. I will be a lifetime customer.

Stopped by to have a suit cut for my wedding with a budget of ~750, I had a brief conversation with the person working and I mentioned what I wanted- a light-grey suit. Nothing more specific than that as I was quite open, with my only requests being colour, budget, and a desire to avoid Hugo Boss. I was willing to push my budget if I found something I really liked and mentioned this. At the time I was only stopping in to take a quick look around, so I took his card and suggested I send him an e-mail with more info on what I was thinking. He noted that he preferred me to stop by rather than email, and I agreed. They've been around forever, have a good reputation, and what I saw was quite nice. I was willing to make the drive from the other side of the city again. I arrived later in the week, and after reminding him who I was, and what I was interested in, he proceeded to tell me that he did not have much in the way of light grey suits in stock, and that the pandemic had caused supply shortages. Understandable- bizarre that this seems to have only come to light in the last few days, but these things so happen. He then proceeds to show me a dark blue suit, and I state that it's quite far from what I had in mind. He then tells me that due to my stature (size 36, they generally carry sizes starting at 38) he didn't think he's going to be able to help me. So he ssuggests a store down the street. I tell this tailor that I'm hoping he has something light-grey, because evidently it may be difficult to order. He gives me a look that clearly says he has no clue what I'm talking about and that this is not at all the case for him. Even stating "light grey suits are very popular lately" and then proceeds to show me a variety of different light-grey suits. I'm genuinely just surprised that a tailor, or vendor of fine men's clothing, cannot clothe a man who is of a size that is two sizes below the norm. I suppose he just didn't need, or want, my business.
