About Sunnyside Natural Market

Heritage Harvest is an organic farm that specializes in heritage grains. Mark Gibreau, Henry Winnicki, and Ray Lefebvre run the farm near Strathmore, and have been growing grains since 2005. They specialize in Red Fife wheat, an early variety of wheat that made the fertile Canadian Prairie’s world famous in the 1800’s.

Heritage harvest believes in quality over quantity. They aim for a sustainable way of farming that boosts biodiversity on the prairies, as well as contributes to a stronger food security system. In 2011, they imported a stonemill from Denmark. The stone grind is a slow and steady process, with no heat, and allows Heritage Harvest to grind and package their grain on the farm.

Yields for the heritage grains Mark, Henry, and Ray grow are certainly much lower than modern conventional wheat varieties, yet we appreciate their effort to reintroduce the crops and aid in making agriculture in Alberta more biodiverse and sustainable.

Red Fife flour has a nutty flavour when baked into bread. Grab a loaf of Sidewalk Citizen’s Organic Red Fife bread next time you’re in the store; it’s baked with Heritage Harvest’s signature grain!

One of my favorite places in Sunnyside. I love how homey the place feels like it's run by actual people, not corporations. Even though it's a small space they manage to fit so much stock and variety onto their shelves. I'm so thankful I can walk over and pick up something for a last minute recipe. And it always smells divine with the to-go items available from sidewalk citizen. Highly recommended!

Very cozy store, right next to the LRT. There is a in house bakery and prepared foods with seats indoors for you to enjoy a bite to eat. This location is expensive so just a friendly heads up so you don't have sticker shock. Place to lock your bike up right outside the store.

This is a joy to go shopping to! It is clean well sorted easy to find what you need I found the staff was not only happy and friendly...but the are VERY knowledgeable! They can answer any questions you have. The food is OUTSTANDING fresh healthy non GMO . All organic and natural. Even free tasters to try at the soup area. They like you to bring your own non plastic bags but will provide a brown paper bag if you forget your bag. **HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!**

I've been eating a Veggie Pizza my entire life, but what was offered here by a slice was beyond my imagination. Perfectly crispy, asparagus and Cauliflower on a pizza was not what I thought I would get. Absolutely amazing. Thankyou

Was asked a number of times to correctly put my mask on. And that they would refuse service to me if I didn't. My glasses were fogged up so I was keeping my distance from all human contact as they cleared. I just found the whole thing quite disturbing and ended up dropping my cart and walking out. They have lost my business of 20 years. Truly absurd, unnecessary and desperate. Against all visions of what a health food store looks like and very unnatural considering the healthy, clear headed, kind, holistic clientele you'd think they'd want to be drawing in. I'm certain they have lost a ton of business through their draconian ways. I have not experienced such unkind behavior at Amaranth or community.... or even Co-op if im being honest.

I went here to pick up some sourdough bread for my good friend Keith Johnstone who lives near Mount Royal University. He's been buying it here for years and says it's his favorite so I'll have to come back and check out the market more thoroughly in the future. Parking is a bit of a challenge as I only saw metered street parking.

This is one of the best natural food stores I have been to. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. To those of you who don't think masking is a priority do the rest of us a favor and use curbside pickup. I am so tired and frustrated of those few individuals that put themselves above the rest of the public. I am personally very glad that they are strict.
