About Sugar Blooms and Cakes Inc.

Marie joined the team in 2012, as a happy accident. Initially on her way to becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic, she decided to help out in the Bakery. She soon discovered she had a knack for Cake Decorating, and fell in love with it! Marie decided to decline her acceptance into Chiropractic school in the States.

To develop her daughter’s skills, Genevieve sent Marie to learn under the instruction of many of Cake Decorating’s best – Margie Carter, Maisie Parish, Joshua John Russell, Marina Sousa, Handi Mulyana, Mayen Orido, and Karen Portaleo to name a few.

The company’s cakes have won many awards from Seven Oaks Foundation – One Sweet Affair Cake Competition, to receiving coverage from Canadian bridal Magazine Weddingbells

Everything in their kitchen is made from scratch, using only premium ingredients. It is real homemade goodness, and no baking shortcuts! The Mother-Daughter duo, together with their very hardworking and dedicated team are behind every delicious cake and pastry that comes out of their kitchen.

Passion and love goes into every cake, and the final outcome is truly heaven in every bite!

Ordered cakes and were picked up by my husband. Talked over the phone with a staff to clarify order. Despite the clarification, cakes given were wrong. There should be a return policy for errors made by staff. Very frustrating!!!

I ordered bangus (marinated overnight in vinegar before frying) with fried rice and 2 over easy eggs and i loved it. They added a couple slices of oranges for presentation and also a small amount of atchara on the side that really compliments the dish. The service is great and their staff are friendly and accommodating. I will definitely come and eat here again :)

This is NOT your typical Filipino bakeshop! This (heavenly) place is where they recreate the pastries you had in the old country but with the taste improved tenfold. Sugar Blooms evokes nostalgia with their ensaymadas and ube cakes while also pleasing a more sophisticated palate by using quality ingredients and exemplary baking and decorating techniques. If you would like a Filipino food experience, Sugar Blooms is definitely a must-try in the city!

Ordered a birthday cake for my son and couldn’t be happier! The order process through their website was easy, the price was great, and the cake is perfect!

Bought this cake for Me and my fiance's anniversary. Was enjoying it until we noticed there literally hair on the middle of the cake this is so gross. Emailed them about it with no reply tried calling no answer. This is seriously disappointing and not to mention a violation of health and safety GROSSS

My review is based off of one item. A specialty 6' cake. I have not tried any of their other items on their menu. For the price ($50) 6 inch cake the cost does not match the quality. $30-$40 would have been a more fair price in the current Winnipeg bakery market. I do however like that the cake was not overly sweet, the favour was good as well but the texture of the cake was gummy as though it was under cooked or they used too much oil in the cake batter. I prefer a nice light and fluffy buttercream but found it was packed tight as if they are trying to get that fondant look with buttercream. I know that is the style that cakes are going right now but it just isn't working as far as the texture is concerned. Buttercream may not have been made with butter but possibly an all shortening "buttercream"? I can't quite tell, but it did have that oily mouth feel. One thing I did appreciate was the design and food colouring was done really well. There was no bitter taste from the black or red colours which can be an issue if bakeries use low quality ingredients. This was not an issue. Even though I was not wowed by this cake because of the cost to quality ratio I would try more of their menu items if I was in the area. The bakery was very busy when I picked up my cake so clearly they have a strong support system and people are buying something that tastes so good it is bringing them back.

Always been a great experience with my orders so far. Have recently received my custom cake on time and very well made (went over and beyond my expectations). These cakes are delicious and fluffy. Clearly influenced by Filipino culture, so if you're used to dense, flavourful with mountain of toppings cake then this may not be your cup of tea but I ecourage to try! Although I love buttercream cake, they make theirs pretty thick. You may note it for them to make it thinner than usual. Also, you can place your regular orders through text. They've replied to me pretty quickly. Custom cakes, you have to email.
