I had recently stayed in Sturgis for a night on business. I happened to stop by this place out of curiosity since I always visit small town restuaraunts. I walked in and noticed that the place was well kept. As you walk to the dining area, There are some shelfs with items that have price tags on them sold by some of the locals in the area.. one of the items that caught my eye were jars of honey, not just any honey but Sask honey.. I thought at first that it may have been a local trade market.. I made my way into the seating area that had a 50" flat screen tv mounted on the wall with the world news playing. The place was a bit dated but as I said it was clean and I mean "CLEAN". I sat down and looked for a server. A gentleman walked out from a giant pantry into the cooking area and made his way towards me. I must state that the kitchen is opened and could be observed as food is being be cooked.. this scene was a bit diffrent for me as usually small towns have the food being cooked closed off from the customers. I looked at the menu on the board, it was far from breakfast but I noticed that they had a breakfast buffet and homemade dessert as well. I was hungry and needed to eat !! On the menu board I noticed the good old cheese burger and fries.. I did not see on the menu displaying burger names such as "all dressed" or any other specialty burgers.. although it had add ons such as "fried mushrooms and onions, grilled peppers, mayo and pickels" and basicly anything extra you would want on a burger. The server explained the menu as well as condiments and after he talked I began to do the math and it turned out that the price came out close if not less then any other big city burger meal.. So I ordered a cheese burger with fried onions and mushrooms with lettuce mayo, ketchup, mustard and bacon.. As I watched the open kitchen, the server put on his apron and washed his hands in the sink. He then sanitized his hands after. Once again this was not normal to see as most of the small town diners I have been to seldomly have open kitchens.. It turns out that the server was as well the cook.. I waited a bit longer then usual for my meal as there was only one cook making it.. I was not in a hurry.. I could see everything being cooked so I knew it was in the process.. after he was done preparing my food the cook/server then brought me my meal.. The first thing I looked for was grease.. the only 2 tiny drips of grease I saw when I lifted my burger came from the onions.. I dabbed my finger into the drops on my plate and tasted it.. it tasted clean :).. the bun was not big or fluffy.. it was almost like a McDonalds cheeseburger bun but better quality. I took a bite of the burger expecting a grease pile to hit my plate but with my surprise there was none. the burger was fantastic.. I would usually text on my phone as I ate but I put my phone aside.. and enjoyed my burger with a side of great tasting shoe lace fries.. I was so impressed with my burger that I just had to I talk to the cook.. turns out he owns the restaurant. He has a very good story on how he started his kitchen.. a single father just trying to make a living with great food.. he is the new owner and new cook as well. He has a causal worker he will call.if he knows it's going to be busy. I asked if he could give me a little tour. He showed me the oil he uses and the meat as well as the other ingrediants.. he also has RO water for his coffie.. I asked him how he even makes money with all the premium & high quality ingrediants that he uses for his meal.. He told me he buys stock quantity as smart as he can so he doesn't have much throw out due to dated ingrediants which he is 100% against. I asked about the local stuff for sale. He said that he wants to be a bit diffrent the most small town diners. He wants people to walk out with somthing more then a full stomich.. as I did. I bought a full jar of local honey which was amazing!!.. I wont be going that way for work any time soon.. but if I do, i will make sure to skip a few towns just to make my way there :)

Really good food at a great price point, when I was staying in town I ate here for breakfast and dinner everyday. The bacon and eggs, Chuck burger and steak sandwhich were my favourite. You've definitely gotta eat here

They have a burger there that was really good with mushrooms added on there. Called the big chuck burger. It's a good burger, same provider to mr.mikes. doesnt feel heavy like as if you were going get a fast food burger from McDonalds or Burger King. Owner is friendly and nice. Simple small cafe style restaurant I would say. Overall it's small simple and cozy. Just how small towns are. ?
