I am an older adult who has been away from playing the piano for many years. Raydene has nurtured my abilities and rekindled my love of music bringing much joy to my life.

You are lucky indeed if you have Raydene Koch of Studio 6 as your piano teacher! She is is friendly and communicates well with all ages. A highly-qualified, professional musician, Raydene follows the teaching philosophy of revered “Teacher of Teachers” Dr. Faina Bryanskaya (dec. 2018), former Professor of Piano and Piano Pedagogy at Leningrad State Conservatory, Russia.

This is with the caveat that I rarely am present for the lesson itself due to work or the distraction of multiple younger kids to care for ? I can definitely comment on the results - which are one of the most important factors in choosing a teacher. We have our 6 and 8 yo under her tutelage for multiple years now and I’m impressed with how much they learn from her lessons - as I can confirm it is like pulling teeth trying to get them to practice outside of them! She holds them - and us - accountable by setting weekly goals on homework sheets for them, and reminding me what they need to focus on. She adjusts her teaching methods and approach according to their personalities (getting them to practice songs that they would enjoy, or adding singing or even dance to motivate). She has picked tailored activity books for my 6yo that she absolutely loves and actually begs to do - she knew my daughter would be interested in this tactic. She developed multiple different approaches to motivate and reward my kids for practicing. She teaches with the goal of exam success (among other goals of course), which I specifically wanted for my kids as I struggled with that in a teacher growing up. We did struggle on multiple occasions with no shows and sudden last minute lesson time/day changes that were difficult to fit into our schedules or communicate to our children as we were at work. She has ensured however that these lessons are made up and she was responsive to my suggestions to address this, which she did implement. Students might find they need to have some flexibility at times to change by a half hour or move a day, or work out some other arrangement to deal with these urgent/emergent issues. Clearly, this has not deterred us from having her teach our children as they still have weekly lessons from her to this day. Virtual lessons also ameliorate this issue as my kids simply turn their iPads off and go back to playing. Finally, she has persevered through COVID, pivoting immediately to highly effective virtual lessons - I have continued to see my kids progress despite the pandemic!! She now has a second piano in her home so once we return to in person lessons I look forward to even more advancement from my kids.
