About Student Legal Services Of Edmonton (Corona Location)
It all started when...
A group of 14 law students at the University of Alberta were inspired by the student assistance clinics emerging in Canada and the United States, and decided to start their own. Student Legal Services officially opened on May 1, 1969 and so began the Summer of ’69. In the first four months, SLS handled over 100 cases ranging from criminal matters to welfare and tenancy disputes.
Since the Summer of ’69, SLS has grown, developed, and made history in both the City of Edmonton and Canada. Since purchasing a school bus for its permanent office and painting it in psychedelic colours, our organization now calls East Campus House home.
SLS Today
SLS now has four projects and two office locations: on campus (East Campus House) and downtown (Corona Office). It is governed by a Board of Directors, which is made up of practicing lawyers and students-at-law. Day-to-day activities are supervised by a student Management Committee, elected annually by SLS volunteers.
Each year, over 250 students from the University of Alberta's Faculty of Law volunteer with SLS to provide legal information and assist with legal matters in Provincial Court. During the summer, SLS employs 28 law students who work as student caseworkers on various civil, family, and criminal matters.

Invest in a good lawyer because there is a reason these people don't get paid for what they do. They thrive off of the grief of people that have victimized and just try to cause them more of that.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ These people helped me immensely. The case was about thirty years ago so this review is late. It now I need their help again. My car was seized onFriday. I missed one payment July 1. There were two payments left on the car loan so I had been making the inflated interest payments for fifty eight months, paying over twice the sticker price of the vehicle. I realize this is the cost of borrowing but really, to re-posses a vehicle without notice when there are two payments left. I wouldn't have missed the July payment had my job not ended mid June. So I used the car payment to feed my family. I have the paperwork the seizer served me with so I'm going to see if I have any recourse. The name of the bank that!did this to me. Well when they say serve us, that's what they do. Serve themselves.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was disappointed, I didn't know that all I would get for help was "write and send a letter by registered mail. . .
I know that the crime is being committed again, against others with brain injuries like me only she's not a senior. And if nobodu stops this, it can go on for life.
I just thought that if the student lawyers couldn't help, they might at the very least have a list of groups or organizations who have knowledge and are willing to support or give aid. I'm from a small city and this was too cold and tough luck for me.
