I have adopted three cats from Street Cats, this is a wonderful organization with volunteers who really care for the cats.

It's a shame when you feel the need to write a bad review about an organization that is supposed to be helping stray cats... however it is also incredibly unfortunate to go to adopt a cat you've been looking at for a while and be turned down to a policy that can't be explained. My friend asked why they have a policy against adopting cats out to a family with another young cat that is on the spay wait list and currently not spayed (under 1 year old). They wouldn't give an answer and told her "there will be other cats when you get her spayed" implying that cats are disposable and that the cat they wanted was no different than any other. She asked to speak to management and when she recieved the phone number the woman told her she was bothering her on a sunday.. then my friend tried to say "what if i wanted to make a donation?" to try to make the point that she has supported them in the past and just wants an explanation when the woman cut her off to say that my friend was bribing her. The woman in the store then told her and her boyfriend that if their cat isnt spayed, maybe they cant afford another cat. Not only is that not true, but it's highly disturbing that this is how they treat supporters and potential adopters. I was disgusted when she told me. I recommend adopting from the SPCA instead.

This shelter is amazing to adopt from and they take great care of their animals! I am extremely happy at how much they cared about their cats while I was adopting and how much information they gave me about my cat. Every volunteer I dealt with was extremely friendly and easy to deal with and they are also very responsive in getting back to you. I would recommend this shelter over any of the others in Barrie by far.

Great organization ran by volunteers. They really care about the well-being of each cat in their care. They ensure each adoption is the right fit for each cat, they are not about numbers.

My two small children and I filled out an application for a kitten that was at Petsmart through Street Cats Rescue. I have been a cat owner for 29 years, and I own my own home. I was very up front on my application, I let them know from the start that I do not take my pets for annual check ups (like 50% of pet owners. I don't see my own doctor annually for a check up either). I do however, take my dog for a rabies vaccine annually at a rabies clinic. My vet also lets me purchase flea treatments for my cat and dog without a physical check. I always take my pets to the vet if there is an issue, like when my dog got stung by a bee and swelled up, took him to the vet. When my dog had a seizure at 5am on a Sunday morning, my husband drove him to an emergency vet an hour away. When he got sick with a stomach bug we took him to the vet. All my pets have been spayed or neutered and have had all their shots/deworming as recommended for puppies/kittens. I stated this on day ONE on my application. I did not receive a call back for 36 hours regarding my application. The woman on the phone told me there were no red flags on my application. Again, I was very upfront about my pets medical history. I again verbally told her what I just wrote here; all spayed and neutered, no annual checks, rabies clinics, flea treatments, and emerg. visits. She said there are "no red flags." 24 more hours later she calls back and tells me she's doing the vet references, and I need to call them and let them know they will be calling. I did this. The woman at my vet clinic brought up my file, and then we booked a neuter appointment for my potential adopted cat. I then texted the woman as she requested letting her know that I called the vet. A few hours later I didn't hear anything, so I called her back. She said she would call and let me know later. Several hours later I received a call from the woman telling me that I'm being declined because my vet references "did not check out." Which completely stunned me, because I was upfront and forth coming this entire time, and her word choice implies that I was not truthful, which was irritating to say the least. She went on to tell me that the vet had "no record" of me ever being there, which was completely false. She then went on to scold me about how pets need to see a vet annually and that dogs need rabies shots etc. My dog gets rabies shots, just like I told them, several times (as well as preventive flea treatments). I told her that it is completely false that I have no record at this vet, I called this morning and they brought my file up, as well as I know I brought my cat in there. So a big miscommunication. After waiting THREE days for this "organization" to reply, I was told I was declined based on not taking my pets for annual checks up, which was information they had on day ONE. She then went on to tell me that she can only go on the information she gets, and that they already gave the cat away to someone else, even though the info they got from my vet was false. After stringing me and my kids along for THREE days they didn't have the decency to talk to me about the issue before just giving the cat to someone else (tbh, I'm not even sure if this is true, or she was just saying it, because I have zero trust for her at this point). The woman even said to me "well your vet is closed now, and they won't be open until Monday, so we don't want the cat waiting any longer." After they made me and my kids wait THREE days, they can't wait one more day to verify with my vet the correct information. Very unprofessional and inconsiderate to say the least. The woman was also very rude to me because my vet booked a neutering appointment when I called them about the reference. The woman was obviously insulted that I didn't know the kitten had already been neutered, even though the last cat I adopted from Petsmart was not spayed and I took her to do that after I adopted her. I think this just shows my intentions to take care of the cat, and she shouldn't have been insulted or been so rude to me about it.

I adopted my cats from SCR 4 years ago.The all volunteer run rescue bent over backwards to ensure that I was the right home for the cat. I was thrilled that they are there for the well-being of the cats in their care rather than simply adopting them get their adoption numbers higher. Thank you SCR for all you do and for my sweet girl.

A wonderful organization run completely by volunteers. They put the cat first above all else! It's an organization with heart. I adopted a cat through this rescue a few years ago. Great experience. Yes, response can be slow, but I would expect that when there are NO PAID STAFF. I find it disturbing that the negative reviews on here are about how Street Cats polices effected them as a person, but make no mention about how those policies put the cats interest first. Talk about selfish. If streetcats policies dont fit with your views on regularly vet checks, delaying a neuter/spay, or anything else then look elsewhere. I commend Street cats for their advocacy on the cats behalf and making tough decisions that protect the cats interest, but may hurt peoples egos/feelings. Keep up the great work StreetCats!

Having been in the animal rescue community for the last 10 or so years, Street Cats is the most organized and reliable rescue I've worked with in Barrie. Their team is dedicated to the cats in the shelter, in foster homes, and in the adoption centre. The happiness and health of the cats, and the homes they are adopted out to is their top priority. Street Cats is absolutely about finding the perfect forever home, even if it takes a little longer to find that home, than they are about adopting out as many cats as possible just for the sake of being able to say they have the highest number of adoptions - thus, leading to permanent and happy homes for both family and kitty :) This rescue and every volunteer that works within it, volunteers with the utmost compassion and care in their hearts for the cats - treating every single one as if they were their own, and it shows. Thank you Street Cats!
