St Vital Villa Apartments - Winnipeg

My roommates and I have seen 4 mice in the past week throughout the building. You can hear the mice running through the walls of the apartment. Not to mention that the lights flicker in your suite whenever you plug something else into the wall. The shower temperature switches randomly from freezing cold to scorching hot. Also, the halls are not kept clean by maintenance. There have been coffee stains on the stairs for four days and the lightbulb was burnt out in the hall for days too before being replaced. I would not recommend this apartment at all.

I lived there for 9 months and saw 15 mice over the 9 months. Management will come and set up traps but that’s it. We were on the top floor and you can hear the mice through the walls. Eventually I found out how they were coming into the suite, under the baseboard heater in the living room. I saw one come in and out. I told management and they came looked under the baseboard heater and said “there’s no way, they are coming from there” I explained you will need to physical take off the heater to see the hole… but no they wouldn’t do that. The last weekend I lived there, I found one in the living room, my bedroom and on the kitchen counter. I think management was tired of us calling every week about another mouse, because they let us out of our lease! Thank goodness, if you think you don’t have mice in your suite, look behind the fridge and stove for mouse poop! You may be surprised.

1 star is too high of a rating for this building. The building is infested with mice, do not pay to live here. The landlords can't be bothered to take any concrete action (such as calling pest control, exterminators or trying to find entry points), all they do is give you 1 or 2 mouse traps to put in your apartment and let you deal with the rest. These photos are all the mice I found within a week in December last year. I will be posting a photo of each and every mouse I find in a trap until my lease is over so stay tuned :-)

Great building with great facilities. The only downside is the tenants. From living here for half a year I have realized that there can be a larger amount of lower income earning big families or singles younger people. This being said, if you live in the ground floor kids will run up to your window no matter if you are there or not, and bang on your window trying to talk to you. All this is while their parents are watching 5 feet away. Main issues that the reviews above seem to be; Thin walls - this can be evident, especially when your neighbours are screaming at the top of their lungs. They build these places to be up-to code, which does not mean they are bomb proof. If someone is slamming a barbell upstairs, you’re gonna hear it. Mice/bugs - I have never had this issue, but this is a pet friendly apartment and we have cats. We also put food away so mice will not be tempted to stay. I don’t know what the stat of others are, but if you are worried about mice, look up how to keep them away because they as is natural if you live on the main floor you may get some form of pest. Like you would anywhere else. Management not doing anything about issues - Funny how people only talk about the mice as being the main issue for management. I have never had an issue with them and was actually pleasantly surprised of how nice and caring they were. They constantly ask me how I like the place. I pay rent on time and in full every month and don’t expect them to, at the drop of a hat, evict all the tenants to call exterminators in for a week. This being said, my rent is cheep. We pay 1100 a month for a padio suite, including parking, and hot/cold water. My electric bill is 10$ a month. At this I don’t expect the world. Its a place with decent mild mannered staff and cheep rent in a great location for commuting. If I expected more I would pay more in rent.

I’ve been living here for almost a year, I haven’t had any problems with mice in my apartment but I have seen multiple mice outside of the apartment in the grass (dead and alive) it’s very unsanitary especially if you have pets. The people at the front desk are very nice but barely know what they are doing. Now as for management they are terrible and only here to make money. I officially moved into my apartment in September and had noticed that the bathroom tub was peeling after only using the shower for the first time, so I immediately called and had asked for them to come and fix it but was told that I would be put on a waiting list, now almost a year later the tub has still not been fixed and has been getting much worse with mold growing in the corners, i have brought it up to them multiple times that I still have not heard from anyone if they were going to come and fix it or how much longer I was going to be on the waiting list for. Also there was damage to the apartment from the previous tenant and the lady that was doing the walk through with me had told me that they would repair everything but still have not done so. Such as stains in the carpet, burn marks on the countertops, multiple tears in the carpet, rust on the floor, dishwasher malfunctioning and warped cupboards. Also the washer and dryers suck! They are coin operated and there’s only 1 of each for each floor, which is whatever but it’s annoying having to fight with neighbours on when you can do your laundry. ANDDD They eat your money, and DO NOT wash clothes properly at all! I’ve had so many problems with them while living here and I’ve also called management let them know that they had eaten my money but apparently that was my own fault. As for a pet friendly community, they aren’t. You may be allowed to own a pet here but there’s so many people here they haven’t been socialized with pets (dogs Specifically) and make it so hard to even let your dog use the bathroom/play. Ohhh and noise. You can literally hear everyone having a conversation the walls are so thin. it’s gross that I know when my neighbour goes to use the bathroom. Yelling is over the top loud and everyone would be able to here it. I can here the people at the end of the hall talking. The hallways are worse everything echos. It makes it so much harder to sleep at night. I would 100% not recommend living here if you want to live a stress free life. Im am so glad that I have found a better apartment for when my lease is up. I’m really looking forward to moving out.

After seeing all these reviews of these buildings infested with mice, I will not be applying again. I used to live in building B in 2010 before the renovations. Moved out once they started. I gotta say I honestly do believe what others are saying about the mice because when we lived here we found one mouse behind our fridge. Management came and killed it with my own broom...gross. But after that we never saw anymore mice. now after reading reviews I see it has gotten worse. I was actually reconsidering moving back here as the apartments look very nice after renovations.... but to live with mice no thanks!!!

I lived here for almost a year, very nice apartment and location in terms of living. Reason behind giving 1 star is Management office in building.

We lived here for 34 months and we loved it. Never encountered any pest issues inside the building. Maintenance look after right away if you require any maintenance. Great, respectful and friendly staff ( office and maintenance). Also, very affordable apartments.
