Good old Hilda... so many memories. I came there in January 1997 as a clumsy 12 year old, and left when i finished grade 9, in June 2000. It was a different time than now definitely, and although the school was not nearly as equipped as it is now, the time spent here stayed with me forever. I was fairly new to Canada and made my best friend for life the first day. We are still close. Mr. Theberge was the one who inspired me to take up the trumpet and I fell in love with the instrument. I played it for years and continue to do so now at age 33. This also led to me pursuing other avenues of musical performance. Miss Grijo and Mrs. Lesik were my awesome English teachers, and Lesik was the one who told me "you're a writer. I see it. Write. Express everything you feel. Good things will come of it." It was incredibly inspirational and I took hold of her words in a big way. Mr. Panek, good old Panek, our science teacher, who'd greet us with his "howdy doody" every morning. We feared him because he was strict but loved him because he was funny and was willing to explain things in depth, if you cared about science. Mr. Jamie Bowen, my social studies and gym teacher. All the boys idolized him because he was tough and played lacrosse, and he used to arm wrestle us (and of course win), and was more like a big brother than some disciplinarian. He also took us to "Gym Option" which was an awesome class in which we went rock climbing, scuba diving, paint bailling, target shooting... I had an awesome time in Hilda and I miss those days. I'm 33 years old and it's funny how every time I drive by there I get a surge of memories rushing past me. Sure there were some darker things too; for instance, this was the late 90s when the idea that bullying was wrong had not yet entered mainstream consciousness and hypermasculinity was the only way to avoid being bullied, which I definitely bought into as a means of self-preservation. It was a different time. Aside from that I give good ol' Hilda 5 stars. If anyone remembers the tall Bosnian kid with the accent, that was me. Hello to all my old teachers and friends.

Best school with the best teachers, especially for immigrants. I had the easiest adjustment period from moving houses. No bullying, and you will get to know people since it is a small school. If you just be positive, do your best, and look at the bright side of everything, you will have a great time in this school.
