J	Joshua Jones on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Last year, my partner and I worked with Janice Wells to do our duel taxes. It was no problem. We were happy with her services. But? In the past month, I reached out to her to discuss about tax issue that I had with my taxes filing for other country. She gave me the estimate rate which is about 3 times higher than what we paid for her services last year. I got confused about her fee and tried to understand why her fee is much higher for much simpler taxes work compared to last year. I haven't hear from her for days then I sent her the follow up emails because I wanted to work with her since I was happy with her service last year. She hasn't respond to my emails then I had to follow up with her one more time. She snapped at me and didn't really answer my question about fees and didn't even apologize for really late response(it took her almost two weeks to respond). That upsets me because I never thought she would speak me that way like that. Now, I am really late for my taxes filing for another country. Thanks a lot, Janice. That was not professional of her to treat me that way. If you need help with your taxes, I won't recommend Janice Wells and find someone else to help you with that.
E	Ed Komo on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I contacted Smythe for some tax residency questions from a referral, after calling CRA and didn't really get the clarity we needed. This is the most pleasant of an experience I ever had working with an accounting firm, and I had worked with quite a few. I contacted Ben, who is one of the firm's partners, whom I imagine is super busy. But he responded quickly, and referred me to one of the principals with expertise in the residency questions. He even followed up. The principal was Teree, and she was just marvelous, not just being pleasant, but more importantly, very knowledgeable and answered all my questions and then added additional advices that I didn't even think about. Thanks to her, our road to navigate Canada taxes per our needs has become quite clear. In summary, I can't say enough great things about Smythe, Ben, and Teree. They will be my goto firm for any of my Canadian tax needs moving forward.
R	Rachel Lim on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I was referred to Janice Wells and Sharon Luk for cross-border tax services. They were very unprofessional. They were difficult to contact and slow to respond to emails. They did not provide me with actionable information regarding my tax filing to the point that I needed to pay another accountant to extract the necessary information from them. They did not inform me of American tax payment due dates resulting in me paying late fees. Finally, I was charged an exorbitant amount for a tax filing that was relatively straight forward. Suffice to say, I will not be returning to this firm nor will I be recommending it to anyone else.
J	Joyti Bharaj on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I used Aaron Dawes as an advisor for my US-Canada cross boarder taxes, including a TSFA issue. Regarding the latter, after I asked them to appeal a decision, they sent CRA a 3rd letter WITHOUT my review and did not represent all the details or facts of my case. This has cost me over a year in penalties and had they let me review this last appeal or paid attention to the multiple emails sent with the details, it may have been a different outcome. In any case I will never be using them again and highly recommend staying away for any US-Canada taxation "expertise". I now need to deal with CRA myself, which I would have had Smythe not have continually told me they were working on it and just waiting for CRA to respond. Apparently it is acceptable to them to wait 6 months for a response from CRA. Very dissapointed and not worth the cost.
