the Skandia House was a three-story hotel and boarding house, built in 1909 by the Olsen Brothers. The cement blocks used in the original construction (made on site) are still intact today. The Alku Cooperative Restaurant was located inside the building. During the hungry thirties, men riding the rails could count on filling their bellies here before getting back on the train. The boarding house was eventually sold and converted into a two-storey family home where the O?Neill family was raised.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Tasha goes the extra mile to ensure your stay is a pleasant one. She and her husband are amazing hosts. Their home is spotless and it is located is a quiet area. If in the Nipigon area I feel this is a great place to stay!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Skandia House is a exceptional alternative to the motels along the highway. My wife and I enjoyed two separate stays here on a recent roadtrip to and from BC. Tasha is a great host and conversationalist, and is incredibly accommodating. Highly recommended!
