Very nice place with amazing unobstructed view on the patio of Toronto and through windows and decor. Compared to the other Shopify office on Spadina that feels more like a coworking space, this feels more like a home or art gallery with stylish artwork, design and furniture. The food at the cafeteria is a slam dunk. If you're into healthy food, this is the place to be. Buffet style food with ingredients listed on labels, there's something for everyone including gluten free, vegan and vegetarian. Plus they have a hot sauce bar with more choices then you can imagine. Apparently you can be your own barista here too with the professional grade espresso machine that they probably have at Starbucks. Snacks abound... Too many to get into it. Construction is still ongoing so we'll see how much better they can make this place once it's finished!

So its a Canadian company that charges canadians USD. So a plan is not $29.99 it is acrually $42.46 WORST part is they also charge canadian taxes in USD. That's right! Usually when you purchase from the US you are charged lets say 29.99 you are only paying us taxes and then it changes to canadian dollars and then you are charged taxes. That's cool. But they are charging you 29.99 usd then adding the CANADIAN tax in US dollars then the converting it to Canadian dollars!!!! HOW the hell do you chanrge canadian tax in US currency. Wish i went with another company

Wanted to give an objective review based upon 1+ year's worth of experience and interaction. Quite simple to get set up initially. Easy to utilize templates. Adjusting code as needed via various forums, blogs, and historical posts. Interfaces with other platforms effectively. No complaints regarding the platform's inherent function and design. Pricing is vary....bait-ish to say the least. Promotion of the lowest plans at first and then compounding costs for url, APIs and other functions is a tad tasteless but I suppose everyone is in the business to make money. Monthly costs quickly go from $50 to $300 usd if one expects to provide quality service, retain a functional website and compete in an e-commerce market. Their Capital Loans provide great start up funds for a new company. However, the only drawback is if you obtain your deposits via sales on a daily basis, you will make payments on a daily basis. That means as opposed to having a loan bill due at the end of the month, you will pay it every day of the week. A hindrance at times but cest la vie. Their shipping options via Canada Post isn't truly competitive but again, you have to put in the work to be able to provide clients better shipping. Is not as flexible or feasible. The Apps and intergration of other softwares unto the platform definitely slaps though. They hold down that department. Yet their Payout system where you obtain the money from your sales is also cumbersome and a hindrance at times as well. Delays in payments and holding larger payments for 4 months is not conducive for business. Therfore, as one progresses with their business, more stops and roadblocks are met by Shopify when one is earning more money. Its almost designed to keep one's business in a certain box. This is also while they charge 2.7% per transaction on all credit cards and debit purchases. So I think a 3 Star rating is appropriate. Give or take. Great platform but can definitely rub you the wrong way and ruin the flex as we say here. Love y'all though!

As a Canadian, as much as I appreciate a Canadian company hitting it big providing the tools for various businesses to help compete with the big businesses like Amazon, it is their practices I take issue with. I made a purchase at my local museum's gift shop, which was using Shopify's software, and they had to give me a partial refund in cash because it did not properly account for HST rules for the books I bought. Furthermore, the software does not account for the Canadian discontinuation of our penny and it presents another complication in sales processing that no one needs. Apparently, this Canadian software business does not provide the proper support for its own country's retail tax laws and related practices, and is apparently only oriented to American ones. That is appalling for a Canadian company to operate with such incompetence within its own nation's borders.

Shopify trick you into thinking this is the best all around software for small business owners at the beginning, and just before the holiday season they give you a big price jump; If you don’t want to go with the new pricing, they cut your service that you have been using for over a year to bare minimum (lite). Not only we don't get a break for the pandemic, they are making our life even more difficult. We are now on Shopify lite, and guess what, they took away the exchange function. Do you know any successful retail boutique store that doesn't provide exchange services?

The King West skyline has been ruined by Shopify announcing their arrival. How is a big ugly glowing sign allowed at King & Portland?

Right at the beginning of the pandemic Shopify quietly changed their policy to keep the 3% merchant fees for refunds. Super shady and terrible way to treat businesses screwed by the pandemic. Cost our company thousands of dollars in our lowest moment. There are way better platforms out there
