Shawnessy Smiles Dental - Calgary

Everyone was friendly. Dr. Roman was very warm and put me at ease. The hygienist had a gentle touch. I have a sensitive mouth. The last couple of times I had been to the dentist were very painful, this was absolutely pleasant in comparison. Easily the best visit I can remember having at the dentist.

My husband and I have been customers for 6+ years, ever since we moved to Calgary. I am very grateful to a family who recommended his practice. I have pretty severe dental work anxiety and Dr.Roman has been the only dentist that I have ever enjoyed visiting (I am in mid forties).I trust him. He has never hurt me, he says right off the bat, “you are the boss.” He is warm, respectful and compassionate about my fears, as is Nicole. They are truly kind. When they work on you, they take time to explain what to expect-which helps immensely when you are fearful. And they are fast and efficient. Becka, in reception is warm, helpful and professional, she always finds a way to get you in when you have a need and Amanda who I see for dental hygiene is also wonderful. We almost moved to BC a few years ago and when we made a list of pros and cons for the move, Shawnessy Smiles was on the list as a ‘con’ to moving because as a team they have made dental visits easier for me and I was afraid of not finding anyone as great as them in a new place. Thank you for all your work. I appreciate you all so much. I recommend Shawnessy Smiles wholeheartedly. P.S. my husband echoes my cudos but he doesn’t write reviews. ☺️

My family and myself have been registered with Shawnessy Smiles since 2013. From our very first visit at the office, we were made to feel welcome and comfortable both by the friendly competence of the staff and the pleasant environment of the office itself. We are very pleased with the high level of professionalism and courtesy from Dr. Roman Koutsil, his assistant Nicole, Amanda the dental hygienist and Becky the receptionist. They take time to explain every procedure and are very supportive and thorough. My daughter can't wait to have her first braces fitted by Shawnessy Smiles.

Again, my cleaning by Lacey, and the check up by Dr Roman a calm and easy appointment. For someone who is extremely nervous and anxious. The staff here make my visit stress free...I’m super happy my decision to start coming here.. See you all in 6 months. ???

I've been going to Shawnessy Smiles for a few years now and recently got a root canal/crown done with them, which turned out really REALLY well!! The team made sure I was comfortable every step of the way and made the experience as pleasant and stress free as it could have been. If you're curious, Dr. Koutsil will even explain the procedures that he's doing with a white board and everything, he really knows his stuff! The Shawnessy Smiles team is a great group of honest people that have your best interests at heart, and I couldn't be more happy with the work that they've done for me. I highly recommend these guys!!!

I have been to Shawnessy Smiles for almost a decade now after looking for the perfect dentist and dental team. I can say the Shawnessy Smiles Dental team have been amazing. Rebecca with the booking is fantastic and personable and always gets my claims in quickly so I can have my payment back usually the next day. Lacey always does my cleaning. I love the consistency of always having the same person and over the years she finally has me quite relaxed (dental anxiety). She is so gentle and just a great person over all. I love her stories and how she keeps it real. My son after graduating from the childrens dentist has also come to see Shawnessy Smiles and loves it. He consistently has Mandy for hygiene and he has no issues at all (child of few words) so Mandy must be perfect! Dr. Roman Koutsil is amazing. He is gentle, he is personable. He pops in just to say hi even if it's a hygiene apt only. He connects with my son, which I appreciate. Recently my husband also started going to Shawnessy Smiles and he also has come to love the team. I highly recommend Shawnessy Smiles!

I found my way to Shawnessy Smiles after my family Dentist of 25 years retired from his Calgary practice. Needless to say, replacing such a long-term relationship with a large degree of success is hardly to be expected. Yet, when appointment time rolls around, or an unscheduled visit needs to be made, I count myself fortunate to have discovered the attentive, competent, and companionable group of individuals working at Shawnessy Smiles. Roman and his team never fail to put me at my ease. They earn all five stars.

I had originally gone here as I was not happy with how my other dentist in the city treated me and my broken tooth. The first appointment had gone great, I had a cleaning and x-rays done and needed a filling or two done. 1.) While at the second appointment I felt like the dental assistant was pressing too far and too deep inside my mouth with the suction/water; if I had a sensitive gag reflex this would have been a problem. I did mention to them that she was hurting me with it, but she continued to do the exact same thing with the placement. It was uncomfortable the entire time. 2.) I had the dentist ask *me* if the filling felt too high on my back teeth, which I've never had a dentist ask me. My mouth is numb and I cannot tell when my teeth are touching? How am I able to make a good judgement of that? 3.) After the appointment I was very sore, an absolute first for me for a filling. I googled it and found something like "pain can last up to a week." I had 6 months of discomfort and pain, something I did not have before getting the two fillings done. 4.) I recently went to my dentist of 20+ years and they told me the reason I'm having pain is because the filling they placed on the top of my tooth was done incorrectly and is missing a section above where the filling stops and the filling actually overhangs slightly from my tooth. And the filling on the bottom has come off entirely and the cavity is exposed again. 5.) My dentist of 20+ years had also called them to send any x-rays, etc from them. Yet this dental office continues to call me and leave messages asking when I'm coming in? Usually when another dental office calls asking for files and x-rays, they aren't coming back.
