About Shane Kokas Fitness

And what got me here wasn’t initially my own interest in health and wellness. It was my mom’s.

 

My mom took charge of her health and completely transformed her life for the better. And when this mama’s boy saw the positive force exercise had on his mom’s life—I was done.

 

I enrolled in a 2-year diploma program for personal training. Unfortunately, my life and what it looked like forever changed, when my mom passed away a year before I graduated, on the Dean’s Honor List.

 

Though I couldn’t see her physically with me on my graduation. I could feel her presence.

 

Still numb to the experience of what was my new life; I like to imagine the energy I felt that day was my mom’s sense of pride.

 

10 years later…

 

I do this for my mom.

I do this for me.

And I do this for those of you who also didn’t get the chance to excel athletically.

 

For those of you, who felt like they are “too old to start.”

For those of you, who feel like the gym “isn’t for them.”

 

For those of you, who were picked last in gym class.

 

For those of you, who felt like they were never good enough, smart enough, fit enough, pretty enough….

 

Through health and fitness, I aim to show people like you, the strength you have inside of you and who you have always been…

I feel like Shane really took the time to understand my concerns and limitations. He put together a program tailored for me, that was adaptable to the progress I was making. I found over the months I worked him so far, that my strength and stamina have improved, and most importantly I'm proving to myself that I am capable of more than I thought.

I've been training with Shane since 2018 and have seen improvements in my overall health, strength, and aesthetics. Right from the start, Shane listened to what my goals are and has helped me achieve them. He is knowledgeable and is always able to answer questions I have. He genuinely cares about you as an individual and makes our sessions fun. Since I've started training with Shane, I no longer suffer from bad lower back pains.

I wanted to get into better shape but felt overwhelmed and didn’t know where to start. I did not have the confidence to ensure I performed exercises with the right form or used the appropriate weights. When I did go to the gym on my own, not only was I self-conscious, but I only knew a few moves and would fall into a rut, and my workouts were boring, and I found it hard to find the motivation to do them. I had been thinking about hiring a personal trainer for a while, but after having a few mediocre experiences, I wanted to make sure I found the right fit. I really like that Shane recognizes and appreciates not only the physical but the emotional challenges for people who are new to fitness and may lack some of the skill and confidence to feel comfortable at the gym. I had previous trainers that focused on how much weight I was losing every week and encouraged me to eat “only chicken and salad.” Which ultimately made me feel bad about my choices and took away from the pride I felt for showing up for my workouts.  I read through many of Shane’s blog posts before my initial session. I loved how he addressed issues like negative self-image, not feeling good enough, and self-sabotage, along with a bunch of great tips on nutrition, motivation and overcoming gym anxiety. Training with Shane has helped to gain confidence in my ability to perform exercises correctly. The way he explains how to engage your core and where you should and shouldn’t feel fatigue/ strain just makes sense and sticks with me even outside of our sessions. The workouts have a lot of variety and our sessions always fly by! Shane was very helpful in helping me set attainable fitness goals (something I struggled with) and tailored my workouts to help me achieve them. Not only is Shane passionate (and knowledgeable) about fitness, I love his dedication to instilling confidence in people who might not consider themselves “gym people.” Shane is as passionate about helping you achieve physical goals as he is about helping you overcome any mental or emotional obstacles that could be holding you back from being your best self! He has a positive and inspiring approach and has really helped me to appreciate and be proud of my progress. Shane trains with care and compassion and really has a knack for making workouts fun, even when they’re challenging! When I didn’t feel like working out, thinking about how much fun I was going to have always made me look forward to it. Some days I would arrive at the gym exhausted, but Shane’s infectious positivity and encouragement always motivated me to push myself, and I always left feeling strong and energized. My personal training experience with Shane has been very positive and has really opened my eyes to what I am capable of with the right support and guidance. It has also shown me how much fun a good fitness routine can be. I would never have imagined a year ago that I would look forward to doing squats!

I’ve been training with Shane since 2012, and now train with him weekly at 6am. Over the years, Shane has been able to help me substantially improve my strength and conditioning level, while at the same time has kept the sessions fun, fresh and productive. Shane is easy to recommend to new and experienced gym goers alike because of his knowledge about training, his kind and enthusiastic personality, and his high level of overall professionalism. I was referred to Shane by a friend and from the first moment we had a phone conversation I knew he was the right fit. Shane was very relatable to my situation and made me feel that how I was feeling about working out and going to the gym was ok and warranted. ​ Before meeting Shane working out/going to the gym for me brought on a lot on anxiety. What do I do at the gym? Was I doing it right? Were people looking at me and judging? Throughout these 3 months Shane has helped put this at bay for me. ​ He has been very supportive throughout my program from building me a routing that was easy to grasp for a new learner, to always checking in and answering any questions that I had without judgment or making me feel incompetent. Every time we met up in the gym it was always full of laughs and was a very relaxed environment and I never felt judged.

Before training with Shane I was quite nervous. As someone who doesn't go to the gym I felt intimidated to workout in front of people I thought may judge my appearance or lack of 'fitness'. Shane helped me feel accepted and comfortable from day one. He met me where I was at mentally in regards to working out, and gently changed my fears of the gym by his own personality and professional training skills. As someone who struggles with back pain, I wanted to learn how to work out to get overall healthier without straining my back anymore. I also wanted to make sure I understood each exercise in what muscle it should be working and the correct form. The first few sessions I felt like I was really struggling by the end of the session as far as energy and mentally feeling like I was capable of getting through a session. By the end of the 12-week sessions that I purchased, I was able to get through more exercises each session, had more stamina and felt proud of myself. Shane also took extra time to explain what muscles I should be 'feeling' in each exercise and made sure that my back was never strained but felt better then when I came in. I would highly recommend Shane. He's amazing!

Shane is the most down to earth guy. After our initial phone call I felt completely comfortable with him and knew it would be the right choice to hire him. Due to my busy schedule I chose then take home program. ​ Meeting with Shane once a month was easy he made sure I understood every piece of the program and would make sure form was correct so when I went to my gym I knew what I was doing. He would keep in touch every week to see if I had questions and make sure the program was working. After the last 3 months I can see the physical changes and now even enjoy the gym again! I cannot thank Shane enough for the support and encouragement throughout the program!

Being fit has always been very important to me, but the idea of having a personal trainer would mean that I would have to put aside 2 or 3 hours a week to train. I thought it was a big commitment for me, so I decided to always work out o my own, and on my own time, which didn't happen very often. Any little excuse, and I would miss. Making the decision to start training with Shane was probably one of the best decisions I have made in a very long time. Sure it is a big commitment, but I love working out with Shane, and seeing the improvements that I have made. I never want to miss a session. Shane has made me feel very comfortable and listens to my fitness concerns. My goals were to become fit, and to make my body stronger, so I could do activities without getting injured. I also wanted to firm up my muscles. Since training with Shane, I not only feel much stronger to do activities (i.e. cartwheels, or even running fast), but I do feel more fit, healthy and happy about myself. Shane is very knowledgeable in his field and he has taught me a lot about the body and fitness. I know that I would never push myself as hard as I do without you Shane. Thank you so much, you have really changed my life for the better.
