About Save-On-Foods

At Save-On-Foods, going the extra mile is nothing new. Actually, we’ve gone above and beyond in all areas of our business since we started, way back in 1915. Originally, we were called Overwaitea Food Group because of the founder’s practice of selling 18 ounces of tea for the price of 16, and the name “overweight tea” stuck. Fast forward over 100 years and that name has changed, but we’re still known for delivering extra value to our customers. Today our company is best known for its most prominent banner—Save-On-Foods—but also includes PriceSmart Foods, Urban Fare and Bulkley Valley Wholesale.

Love save on. I only grocery shop there. Update. Dec 27/21. The place is picked clean. There are empty shelves, very little ground beef, which is odd for Alberta. The store looks like it's going out of business??

Good lunch section and selection β€” but every time I’ve been here there’s only self-checkouts available.

Around 7:00PM December 1st 2021 I went shopping and loaded up about $150 worth of groceries at checkout 1. Previously at this store multiple employees encouraged me to get the app and told me "the first week of every month if you have the app you get %15 off your entire order once per month." So I wanted to take advantage of that, but received hostile service from the cashier and her supervisor saying it starts December 2nd-8th and I would have known if I read the flyer... Bold of your employees to assume I get flyers from Save on Foods. Additionally, how dense do you have to be to not give that customer %15 off when they're just only 1 day early of a week long sale that you do EVERY month, who is still shopping within the first week of the month. Like you're really going to make me leave all my groceries at your till and come back tomorrow and load everything back up again just to waste everyone's time and make other customers wait while you clean up the till of all those groceries you refused giving me the %15 off of? Get real. On top of that, it's a Pandemic. You're going to encourage me to come in store again to shop for my family because you're too stingy to honor a deal that starts tomorrow? London Drugs next door would have honored their sale in advance and would be happy to help me, but your rude employees wanted nothing to do with me. But guess what, I'm coming in again to shop for the same exact load of groceries tomorrow because you refused me today.

This used to be my go to grocery store, for years it was the place to go, i had full loyaltyto this place. Not anymore, over the last year without a doubt its the most expensive grocery store in lethbridge, on everything. Inflation has hit this place like a tonne of bricks, making it no longer affordable at all. The sales have gone from save $2 to save 20 cents if your lucky. Go to No Frills or Superstore and you will save a bundle, even their 15% off day isnt worth it anymore. With the 40% product price increase you now only get ripped off by %25.

Pros: ridiculously clean and well maintained grocery store. Quality produce, bakery and meat departments. Great variety of common foods, and fair selection of harder to find produce items. The selection of hot foods and ready to eat meals are probably the best of any grocery store within Lethbridge. Their organic food/health food aisle has a fantastic selection as well. Cons: In-store points program needs a lot of work. Every dollar spent earns you one point which you can then redeem on certain items within the store. For example: redeem 500 points to take 2 dollars off of Natrel milk. This means you have to spend 500$ to earn the 500 points, which you then use to take 2$ off of an item. Save On Food's point program pales in comparison to other in-store point programs such as Real Canadian Superstore's PC PLUS point program. Their in-store brand is Western Foods which although is a good brand on its own, the cost of Western Food brand items compared to other in-store grocery brands (think No Name, Presidents Choice, etc) tends to be more expensive. It also seems as if name brand items cost more at Save on Foods then at other grocery stores such as Walmart, No Frills, Real Cdn Superstore, etc. All in all, Save On still gets a 5 star review from me due to the fact that the store is very clean, always stocked with quality food, and friendly knowledgeable employees.

To the usually good bakers, The p-nut butter cookies I bought yesterday were a surprise as they had barely a hint of p-nut butter taste. I actually put p-nut butter on them to make up for it. What happened guys!

Worst store ever!! I have shopped here for about 14 years because it's close to where I live and it used to be a great place to shop. Now, it is so poorly organized that it's almost impossible to find anything. Then I find out they price match, which is good since they are one of the most expensive stores in Lethbridge. I brought up the Real Canadian Superstore website. Same item is $2 cheaper and they won't price match. Its not worth coming to this location anymore. The west location is still expensive but at least they price match and you can easily find what your looking for. Good bye North Save On!!

Thank you RACHEL for taking the time to explain things to us. We appreciated your patience and help more than you know. You made our experience at Save-On-Foods a place to want to return to. The store was great with a large variety of fresh, frozen, pretty much everything one could ask for. Bright, clean and well organized too. Thank you ?
