About Save-On-Foods

At Save-On-Foods, going the extra mile is nothing new. Actually, we’ve gone above and beyond in all areas of our business since we started, way back in 1915. Originally, we were called Overwaitea Food Group because of the founder’s practice of selling 18 ounces of tea for the price of 16, and the name “overweight tea” stuck. Fast forward over 100 years and that name has changed, but we’re still known for delivering extra value to our customers. Today our company is best known for its most prominent banner—Save-On-Foods—but also includes PriceSmart Foods, Urban Fare and Bulkley Valley Wholesale.

Store is relatively clean and appealing upon entry which is a plus, but staff is somewhat indifferent at times; especially at the lotto centre. Have definitely spent more than a few minutes on a number of occasions waiting for the staff to either recognize my presence or get off the phone. These are more commonly the men that work there—I think I’ve seen them on the photos on the wall behind them…which is hilarious . As far as I’m concerned, you might as well replace their photo with a potato….maybe then they’d grow some eyes on the back of their heads and see the line up waiting. There is one lady that works up there that is excellent and does a great job splitting her time between the self-pay tills and the lotto centre. Most of the time she greets us and is prompt to help out and gives excellent customer service. The men that are up there don’t even bother helping her out from what I’ve experienced—-not even when she’s busy as hell and trying to help multiple people at the same time. It should be her face on that wall…not those other clowns. Apologies but I don’t know how else to he civil about expressing my disappointment over their terrible example of customer service. Put them in a clown car, and send them back to the circus…because like the circus…no one will miss them when their gone.

The pharmacy here is amazing! Both the ladies working there are so pleasant. Prescriptions are always filled super quick. The rest of the store is always clean and well organized with a good variety.

Regular grocery store + drugstore. Nothing to write home about. You would expect at this scale they can take care of keeping fruits in stock. When we visited they had nearly no berries while any other store we dropped by had the regular fares. The name also is definitely an irony since they are on the higher end of price for food.

We had ordered 290.00 worth of platters for my best friends daughters funeral a week before ... the morning of the service we get a call the deli manager that the can not make the order and there is nothing they can do sorry. This brought her I'm to immediate tears obviously because who cancels the morning of with no back up plan. Not only was he rude and had no solution . They r horrible. They did not even apologize or give her a gift card nothing. Unreal

Great, great store!! Very, very convenient for me!! (I live right across the street from it!!) Very friendly staff and great selection. Overall, a very well kept, clean store. Other than that, I only have 2 minor issues with it. First, the prices are a little steep, even if you have a discount card. (I thought it was called Save-On, not 7-11) Where as Walmart and Superstore have lower, more affordable prices, letting you get more bang for your buck, Save-On costs double those places. I go here all of the time, but it's usually just for a few items, and even THAT costs me quite a bit. The 2nd issue is that they allow smaller organizations to set up shop near the exit, so that THEY can try and sell you THEIR stuff on your way out. I do appreciate that most of it is for charity or for a good cause, but it's getting really tiresome to keep getting harassed by someone else trying to sell you something while your just trying to get home and eat. Other than those 2 minor issues, I really do love this place, as expensive as it is. And it's great having it within a short walking distance if I need anything FAST.

This particular save-on-foods I love the staff. If I have a question on where something is they always take me to where the item is. Everyone of the staff is professional and courteous. The quality of meat and produce is great. They have one if the best keto friendly sections around.

Hello, I came in looking for a few item today. While in the meat department, a very helpful butcher, showed me what I was looking for and made sure I picked up some bargains. I purchased more than I thought I might need or want, and another gentleman was kind enough to grab a cart, as my purchases became too much for me to lug in a basket. At checkout, Rebecca assisted me with my purchases, and was very pleasant. It makes a difference when you hire quality staff, it shows in the service. Regards, Linda

Really good produce, by both quality and variety. Wide selection of meat, and a good dry goods and bulk section. The only area a little less full than other stores was the bakery, but still enough selection for a regular shipping list. This is where we go when we need ingredients for a recipe that are a little outside the norm. Good customer service, too.
