But if you're LGTBQIA it's important to know that this place, despite not seeming malicious about it, is transphobic/denies the existence and validity of trans/nonbinary people as real men. Hopefully people around him can help him to see that and he can progress forwards.
So what happened. They heard my voice at reception and got me to speak to the manager who told me that many women want their hair cut there, but he just can't do that because on principle he only does hair cuts for cis men, even if the women have masculine haircuts. When I explained that I did not identify as a woman and informed him that he might not be aware of this but that was a transphobic policy he said that I "had to understand his point of view". Which is fair, i don't think he intends to be malicious but ultimately he is running a business which currently feeds into a system that is very hurtful.
If you don't agree with what I am saying here that is fine but I encourage you to do some reading on this perspective and lived experience, just to better understand where my community is coming from.
