I had the immense pleasure of meeting Ian Kennedy while involved in a stressful dispute with my former employer. Ian’s polite demeanor was augmented by his interpersonal skills to provide me with firm explanations of choices to help me decide the route which best suited my grievance. Over the years I have found myself in various situations that required legal council, both personally and professionally. Dealing with these situations tend to be bad enough on their own, but then I would dread having to search for and retain a lawyer to assist me. This is usually because I found that most lawyers don't listen to me or really even give me a chance to speak. They just tell me to pay the retainer and that everything would be OK. Then a few months and retainer top-ups later the realization that everything was not going to be OK would settle in and I would actually feel like my lawyer was working against me by not really being engaged in my case - just another file and they get paid either way. For context, some of these engagements ended up costing me $60+K and ended up going nowhere. A few years ago I found myself in a situation where I couldn't find a lawyer that was even willing to take on representing me due to the oddity of the case. Just as I was about to give up I made contact with Ian Kennedy. He made the time to listen to me, gave me realistic advice every step of the way, was actually interested in my case, and kept in contact with me as needed over the 3 years it took for my case to be settled. I found Mr. Kennedy to be very experienced, organized, well grounded, a clear and concise communicator, compassionate, and very professional - both with me and the opposing council. His litigation methods and skills are by far the best I have ever seen. For once I actually felt like I had someone not only on my side, but actually able to help me. I believe the opposing council also recognized what they were up against with Mr. Kennedy and settled with me out of court. This resulted in a win for me and I also avoided the extra costs a Supreme Court hearing would have incurred - at Mr. Kennedy's honest advice. While I will be doing my best to avoid getting into any situations that require legal council in the future, knowing that I could potentially retain Mr. Kennedy offers much comfort.
