The staff are hard working and approachable.

Friendly nursing staff but not pragmatic: - upon arrival staff member (nurse?) came to open locked main entrance; quickly took off without asking if we knew where to find the person we were visiting; so walk down a very long corridor to find someone to ask for directions only to be told that the person was at the very opposite end of the long corridor - staff member (nurse?) gave directions on how to find our way out (long winding corridors) but did not take initiative to send someone to open the locked main entrance; again as at time of arrival had walk down a long corridor to find someone to unlock the door (after there was no response to pressing call button at the entrance) - phoned ahead to ask if a the person was at this nursing home and got not callback after leaving a voicemail message to the nursing station

This facility is by far the worst long term facility in Ottawa. A rating of 1 star is mandatory in order to post a review, however, the rating should be well below zero. It is without a doubt that the level of care here is beyond unacceptable. The Director of care, has demonstrated that there is no compassion for those who require care, love and attention at this facility. This has been proven via the countless times which we were told, in plain English, that it was better for our loved one to die. It is shameful and beyond comprehension that these statements can be made on a repeated basis. It also serves as a reality check that this facility is interested in money above all else. Our loved one requires to be fed at least 2x a day as he is unable to feed himself. There has been much hesitation and resistance from the Director of care to support this request, simply because our loved one is unable to communicate with the outside world and verbally confirm that he requires to be fed. As a result, we are forced to feed him ourselves and take matters into our own hands, despite the fact that this facility is being paid good money to provide this most basic level of care. It must be said however, that the staff are in favour of feeding our loved one, especially as he has shown tremendous improvement and responsiveness to food. This was even confirmed by treatment Doctor associated with this facility. The fundamental issue lies simply with the Director of care, who in our opinion, does not have a shred of human dignity. It is our intent that this review is read by as many people as possible, but in particular, that it is read by the Director of care so that she can resolve this problem and allow for the much needed care to be provided by her staff, without any interruption, hesitation, doubt or delay.
