I had a great experience here, I must admit, i didnt feel welcome when i first arrived and kinda felt like i was in prison or another planet or something, didnt think id make it through, but after about a week, i got used to being there and actually ended up having a grand old time and best of all, it will be 1 year in a few days and im still sober. Not everything was sunshine and rainbows, i had some run ins with counsellors and patients, but overall i look back fondly on my experience. The only thing i would mention as a warning is that its not a good place to go if youre a non smoker or are planning to quit smoking at the same time as quitting drinking cuzz large portions of the day were just spent outside smoking lol, but good place for quitting drinking (atleast for me).

Although some of the negative things that happened while I was staying as an inpatient at Renascent are on me, THIS is not an addictions treatment centre I can willingly recommend. I'm no longer angry with what the facility, or it's staff but it would be remiss of me to at least not provide my review and pray that by the time someone reads this, all has been corrected. Firstly, let's start with the two sets of rules provided to clients. The first is given to you during your assessments. The second set is provided to you AFTER you've checked in, and you suddenly realize that you're being treated like a child with boundaries, limited to 20 minute outings away from the facility during free time, no access to the recreation centre nearby, or the library, etc... Then of course there is the Client's Bill of Rights, which look utterly amazing until you read the Staff's Bill of Rights and realize that the very last one listed on the Staff's trumps every Right a Client has while staying there. You're provided a workbook on your first day, which hasn't been updated since 2004. Incidentally, if you're gay please note that in the Step 4 of said workbook there is section that clearly states that the only approved sexual practices are those "defined by God"! I couldn't believe my eyes that the Ontario Ministry of Health had missed an obvious infraction of the OHRC and Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms Yet, the Punanai Centre is allegedly LGBTQI friendly. It says so clearly on the door coming in, but staff do little to prevent the constant stream of pejoratives that can cause a client who's gay to feel more than a bit insecure in disclosing their sexual preference. Personally, I felt one of the biggest insults was to wait 5 weeks out of six before finally seeing the "psychiatrist" they promised would help me with getting referrals to work on my mental health after I left. Instead of referrals, she provided me with a list of 4 places, which I would have to contact myself. Of these 4 places, one had not been accepting new patients for more than two years, two did not work with people in my age group and the last one no longer existed. When I confronted Punanai management about this, my concerns were not addressed appropriately, nor was I provided with any other possibilities. I made several other attempts to speak of my concerns, but all I got was a figurative pat on the head on most occasions. Even their Aftercare program was a disappointment I honestly felt devalued as a client, that the promises that had been made prior to my paying almost $16,000 had been worth nothing more than the air that was needed to speak them. If you wish to go to this facility, I wish you all the best, but wait for an OHIP berth and save your money.

Terrible experience! Staff are threatening and target individuals and make you feel unwelcome from day one ! One staff member named John went as far as embarrassing me in public and making RACIST comments towards black people & maliciously targeting me for no reason ! Please do not send your loved ones to this modern day concentration camp ! Food was terrible and was served portions fit for children ! I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this terrible and hateful organization!

To Family Services at Renascence, How do I express my gratitude?? The process of change is extremely hard, and recovery is an epic form of change! This has been a daunting task with a lot of unfamiliar feelings and behaviours. The family services helped me navigate through these changesand the many obstacles I continue to face along the way. The feelings of support and connection were definitely made during the weekly meetings. The information that was provided for each meeting was extremely thorough and conducive to what I needed to learn and applyto my recovery as a loved one of an addict. I have found ways to build myself back up, stand on my own feet, set boundaries that protect me and my choice to live an addiction free life. The guidance of Jennie was what really made the difference for me. She is compassionate, considerate, patient, and flexible. Jennie knew just how to prompt me, and what questions to ask. Jennie has the perfect approach when dealing with challenges that arise. I truly believe now that the success of any recovery is only as strong as the resources that are offered. The family services offered through the renascence program is truly a valuable one. I'm very lucky to have been offered this opportunity. I wish thatmore of these programs were available and more families should know that they don't have to go it alone. These very qualified people and the literature, helped to calm the storm of addiction recovery in my life. This will be a continued journey of further changes and ongoing education, but I strongly feel that I have been given the tools to navigate through and continue to be successful at supporting my addict in a healthy way that allows me to be in control of my life, my environment, my choices, my future. Thank you to Jeannie and the entire Renascence Team.

I came to Renascent in January of 2021. I was emotionally broken. The Care and compassion showed to me by the staff was second to none. Abshir and John have continued to go above and beyond since i graduated the program. I will forever be grateful for everything Renascent has given me in my life. Highly Recommend

I went for three weeks. At the time, due to My years of drinking Myself to oblivion My memory was useless, and because of the slow progression, I wasn't even aware about it! The experience was a great start for joining alcaholics anonymous and in 3 months I shall have been sober for 5 years. I was 63 back then. You're never too old. At the time I thought it was the end of the world when I was told that I couldn't drink alcohol any more. It was, but it was the beginning of another one. Way better than the other one. I kept My job, ( the company had performed an intervention God Bless Them!) Didn't get My car repossessed, paid all My debts, started saving, My health improved, My memory returned.I could also add many more wonderful things that have happened to Me as a result. And the crazy thing is I didn't want the help, because in My mind, I was just a heavy drinker! Anyone who is reading this post and thinks that it might sound helpful, I strongly recommend that Punanai treatment center and all Their other ones. I promise You, You won't regret it.

I came here lost and confused, with one hope in mind. I wanted to find guidance to stop using substances. I was very hesitant at first but with the help the counselors I came out of my shell. I have been sober for almost 3 years now. I truly appreciate everything Renascent had done for me. The tools I learned here about relapse prevention and triggers have helped immensely. They showed me how I could be a part of a community and it is within this community, that I have found myself. The counselors were always available for one-on-ones. Also the continued care program and follow-up guidance has been extremely helpful. Being able to return and share my journey with other clients at alumni meetings has helped me stay connected to this community. Renascent has an inclusive atmosphere and always made me feel a part of. I will end with this, the food was terrific. Every chef brings their A game for every meal. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
