About Reliance Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing

With current social distancing measures in place many offices are closing or introducing new working arrangements, and the trend for flexible and remote working is only continuing to increase. If you are among the growing number of people setting up a home office, understanding its electrical requirements will help ensure you can work from home like a pro.

Whether you have a dedicated home office, or just a dedicated corner of the living room, these five tips will help you set up a safe and efficient residential workspace.

1. Determine your electrical needs

Depending on the type of work you do, your home office setup could include a number of electrical devices including computers, printers, scanners, monitors, USB receptacles, power bars, and even additional lighting.

You’ll need to make sure your home office space has plenty of electrical outlets, and that there is enough voltage to safely run your equipment. Otherwise, your workflow could be interrupted by power outages caused by an overload.

If you’re not sure whether your home’s electrical circuit can handle the extra demand, it’s best to call in a licensed electrician for help.

2. Protect your electronics from power surges

Power surges can happen several times each day. They can be caused by something as simple as turning on a hairdryer or something as dramatic as a nearby lightning strike. Most small power surges are harmless, but larger surges may cause permanent damage to sensitive electrical equipment.

To help protect your office equipment from unexpected spikes in power, consider having a licensed electrician install a whole home surge protector. Learn more about our surge protection and our other electrical services here.

3. Get your internet up to speed

Reliable, highspeed internet is a must for any efficient home office. But if you’re sharing your bandwidth with family members who are streaming videos, gaming, or enjoying video chats, your older router may not be able to keep up.

Google WiFi works with your existing network and offers a simple, affordable solution to dead zones and lags. The experts at Reliance™ can get your smart WiFi system set up in a flash, so you can get back to work.

4. Keep your electrical equipment cool

Electronics hate the heat, so don’t forget to think about adequate air circulation when you’re setting up your home office. Minimizing the risk of overheating is as simple as leaving a few inches of space around your electronic devices and making sure the vents (usually located on the back or sides) are kept clean and clear. Never stack your devices, and keep your computer and other electronic equipment away from direct sunlight.

5. Make sure you have enough light

Creating a bright, inviting workspace will help keep you motivated and productive when you are working from home. If you’re not lucky enough to have a workspace with plenty of natural light, a good desk or floor lamp should do the trick. Invest in LED light bulbs to help keep your energy consumption in check.

Absolutely wonderful experience with Shawn and his team at Reliance. Knowledgable, professional, and very easy to work with. Explained everything right from the get go, and throughout the entire installation process. He went above and beyond, and it was a BIG job. I 100% would refer family and friends, and couldn’t rave more about the experience we had from start to finish. Thank you!

Shawn and Lee from the Lethbridge crew were amazing, efficient, and professional, they answered all my questions, and explained everything that I needed to know about the (before, during, and after) furnace installation and they also helped me with issues I was unaware of and they were able to fix the issues which was awesome. Thank you guys so very much I truly appreciate everything you have done. I will definitely be recommending this company to everyone I know ?

Called for service dye to a faulty furnace part. It was a local number but I think it goes to a call service outside Canada. They asked for way more information than they should need for a service call and their priority was to sell me a new furnace. I insisted I only wanted a repair. Got transferred to someone else to book it. That person had no idea where my city was. Got suspicious and asked if this was a local company or not... Silence. Asked again... Nothing. Hung up and called a company that really is local and was very pleased with their service.

So happy to be done with this company. Discovered it was very difficult to actually payout the contract. Never again will I even consider using this company. They are simply not worth the hassle and frustration. Next time I need furnace or A/C it will be from anyone but Reliance home comfort. Don’t walk run from Reliance Home Comfort Lethbridge Customer services is beyond lacking, in fact it is non-existent, very unprofessional, and dangerous. This is evidenced by the fact that there were: More than 130 days to complete a promised 1-day installation in a 1200 sq ft. home. 26 plus – phone conversation begging to get the job finished and still an unresolved situation. 17 phone calls, 21 emails, 13 text messages to Regional Sales Manager, refuses to address questions asked, seems to have little to no influence on subordinates. 4 calls to Customer Resolutions and no resolution. Every phone call, text or email was made because of inactivity on the part of the company. BBQ gas line installed without gas permits in place 7 separate visits by installers, 3 of which were a result of failed inspections. 10 weeks and 6 technicians to install a humidifier, 2 installers sent that didn’t know how to install the humidifier. Damage done to exterior siding when installer did not measure correctly. Unsightly oversized hole drilled requiring a cover to be installed. Company attempted to take funds from bank before project was complete, although there was a commitment of 6 months no payments. (Customer Resolutions Specialist) 4 emails, 2 phone call and now 3 weeks plus weeks just to get the first payment date. Operations Manager 3 phone calls, 3 emails, countless unfulfilled promises. Managers made countless promises and never delivered like saying crews would not leave until job was done yet they had to return 6 different days and only after we called to demand they come finish the job great at sales, terrible with customer service, refuses to deal with issues after your name is on the contract. As for that BBQ line, it was not a matter of doing that as a favor, that was your company fulfilling a commitment made by sales during the initial sales call. Responded to email by blaming her employer for failure to complete work. Reliance Home Comfort is like passing gas, it makes a lot of noise, stinks a lot but in the end accomplishes absolutely nothing.

Amazingly professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Shawn answered all my questions and resolved all my furnace issues. I've dealt with other HVAC/Furnace companies before and they aren't even close to the quality I received from Reliance Heating. I highly recommend them to anyone that require their services. Easily five stars+!

Shawn Fridge and his team were extremely and very knowledgeable! Shawn demonstrated customer service excellence by answering any and all questions, educating us on the furnace, thermostat, and AC unit. He worked diligently to complete the installations perfectly!!!! We were very impressed by his work ethics. Old furnace system dismantlement is our service not listed so we got a new high efficiency furnace/AC system all in one and all existing old systems removed! We are very happy with everything! They even did extra by crawling around underneath our mobile and closing off all the other unused pipes. They were prompt, they were tidy and brought a rollout cover for the floor and cleaned up after themselves and worked non stop hard all day long until job was finished. They went totally above and beyond what was expected and demonstrated how to use the new thermostat, turned on and demonstrated the new AC system and then turned on and demonstrated the new furnace! We would highly recommend using this company and their fantastic and efficient crew from Reliance Home Comfort for all of your heating and air conditioning needs! We are sure glad that we called Amy and that she looked after us so well! Highly recommend this company!

I cannot express enough how incredible this team is. They have bailed us out of trouble not once but twice. Just days after buying our home, our hot water tank quit on us and Reliance was in our home within 24 hours to replace it. Shout out to Amy for taking my call on Mother’s Day of all days! Almost a year later, we had set up an appointment to have AC installed. The team (Shawn and Lee) showed up right on time and called upon their arrival. (Loved that). They took time to put down mats to keep my floor clean and got to work. Shortly after they began the work, I received a phone call from Amy informing me that Shawn had found that our heat exchange was cracked and releasing CO. They were very concerned and asked if anyone in the home had been sick, informing us that they were worried that had they not inspected the furnace, we were at serious risk for CO poisoning. They then informed me that due to the crack, they are legally required to turn off the gas to my home until our furnace was fixed. Amy had all my options that Reliance could offer to me to get my furnace fixed ASAP but her and Shawn expressed that I did have the option to go through another company to get a furnace if I preferred. That thought didn’t even cross our minds. Amy immediately contacted the Calgary site to see if they had a furnace available that day. And they did! Shawn and Lee not only installed our AC that day but also installed a new furnace. I overheard Shawn and Lee speaking and they were talking about how this small job had turned into a full day task. Neither of them were complaining, they said “I wouldn’t have been able to sleep tonight if we hadn’t fixed this for them.” If you’ve made it this far in my very long review, I want to express that these people are incredible. They potentially saved the life of my family by going above and beyond what was expected of them. They care about the work they do, care that is it done right, and truly care about the best interest of their customers. I could go on and on about this team so I’ll stop now.
