About Prairie Tractor & Engine Museum

History

The Coyote Flats Pioneer Village started in 1982 by five men, Murray Burton, Ray Pearce, Norm Richards, Evan Evans, and Duane Dunn, as a hobby club for restoring old farm equipment. They decided to name the club The Prairie Tractor and Engine Club. They started on Duane Dunn’s farm and did annual threshing demonstrations. In 1987, they began leasing the land it is now on from Roelof Heinen and purchased the land in 1990. The museum has grown since then and is now a representation of a pioneer village, showcasing homesteads, shops, and many other buildings used in the early 20th century. In 2009, the museum was recognized as a certified museum by the Alberta Museum Society.

Was on a vacation in Southern Alberta and aimlessly scrolled through google maps attractions sub category and came across this place. Stopped by on the way back home expecting to spend an hour, hour and a half, and was I ever pleasantly surprised. I was lucky enough to be led around the property by the president of the board/head honcho (I can't remember your name, from the East coast, retired civil engineer, please reply so I can edit). He was a endless well of knowledge of local history and stories of the people who donated the various items on the farm. I could have spend all day and more viewing and learning about all the tractors, buildings, farm equipment, railway tools, personal effects, and narratives of the people involved. If you are a history buff, mechanical equipment nerd, or lover of pioneer culture this place is a must. Can't wait to come back, thanks for the hospitality.

Great place to visit and take a look into how things were back in the day. Lots of antiques on site and things to see. Buildings come from many communities around Southern Alberta. The old post office and jail were really cool. Would recommend for a little day trip. Hit up Kosters Bakery while in Picture Butte

Highly recommend, especially for families with young children. Quite a bit more than just an outdoor tractor museum. There are also many heritage buildings and some railcars. This is among the best of this class of museum in Alberta. Our visit was great with no other visitors.

I would like to thank the 2 ladies that gave us a private tour yesterday. They were not open but took the time to take my friend and me through the buildings and give us a history of each one. So appreciated.

This place is listed in Google maps as a tractor museum. Ok there were alot of cool tractors!!! But this place is so much more that a tractor museum. It is more like an old fort with all of the buildings from around Southern Alberta in one place and there is even an old fairy that was in use until recently!!! The tour guide was very informative, knew so much about all of the buildings and the history of where they came from!!! This was so much more than we expected and we will definitely be back with more people from our family!!! I would recommend this place to any history buff or just aunt Susie!!! I loved it!!!

Great vintage farm machinery display. The most tractors I've ever seen and yea they're still running. Enter by donation so if you have a big family or car load it's great. There's a hall for eating and ice cream. There are some vintage buildings as well.
