About Park Lake Provincial Park

There are no laws prohibiting the use of metal detectors in the public areas of provincial parks as long as the activity isn’t interfering with the enjoyment of the other park visitors, breaking any of our other regulations, or in any way threatening any of the wildlife in the park.

Metal detectors can be used in the province’s parks, provided that:

  • They are only used on beaches and similar disturbed areas (where digging will not affect the natural ecosystem/habitat). In disturbed areas that are being excavated under a research permit, these areas are closed-off from the public to prevent recreational digging
  • No historic resources are damaged or removed
  • No items are removed from the park
  • All items of value (historical or monetary) are turned over to the local park office
  • They are used for recreation and not for commercial purposes
  • Their use doesn’t violate other laws, such as interfering with a person’s quiet enjoyment in the park. People operating metal detectors are encouraged to use an earpiece/headphones to reduce the likelihood of the noise disturbing others.

As in the case of other park users, a person can expect to encounter officers who will inquire about the activities being conducted and require them to identify themselves and their occupation.

In order to dig for historical resources, a person requires an excavation permit issued by the Parks Division under the Historical Resources Act; this permit is associated with archeological or paleontological research permit. In some locations the excavated items are likely to remain in the park for research and storage; in situations where an excavated item is to be removed from the park, a collection permit is required.

Always my go to mini get away when i want to be back in nature. Not far from Lethbridge its just a beautiful place to be. Great for hiking, fishing, or just relaxing by visiting the cute little shops and dining on some good food .

I have lived in Lethbridge all my life and never have camped at park lake until this summer. I was very surprised as to what It had to offer and how nice the layout was for a small camp ground in the prairies. The camp sites are large with a lot of space for big and small units, a lot of well mature trees for good shade and privacy within your spots. They have the small lake that you can go and enjoy and also great bike paths around the whole lake to get some exercise on your trip. At the lake there is a snack shake with burgers, drinks, ice cream etc.. which was really nice in case you forgot to pack something. When your trip is done they have a dumping station right on site which was great so we didn’t have to make another stop on our way home. We had a wonderful time staying here and would definitely come back. Thanks Team.

Would have given it 5 if only showers were available. After a day at a beach would have been nice to wash off. No shower available at any time. Was at Site A10-North side and good shady areas. North side has more trees therefor shade. Close to outhouse, water and also there was power at this site. It is indeed close to the highway which can be busy at times but it didn’t bother us. Concession was a hit with the kids. Reasonably price. Ice cream was better than most concession at other campground. Order firewood at concession and they can drop it off at your site. Concession is open 11am to 7pm on sunny days and 4pm to 7pm on rainy days which is located by the beach. Little trails was nice and clean. Nice sunrise and sunsets. We went fishing at the other side of the lake but unfortunately we did not catch any but was informed that pike and walleye can be caught. Crystal Spring cheese is about 5mins drive. Lethbridge about 15 mins. Legendary Wing King is a must to try in Lethbridge.

This time we went in winter so it was really nice to walk on the ice and spot animal tracks in the dirt and the snow. Unfortunately it was windy.

Seriously perfect place for kids, families, day trips. Events. The beech isvery clean. The water is knee high for a good 10 Meters for toddlers. There is a deep end. Boat launch. Ice cream shop with food as well like burgers. Staff are friendly as well there. Camping is offered at a reasonable rate with hook ups and RV parking as well. Waterfront camping offered. Loved going there. Clean is the big thing. There is a corn maze down the road to. It's like 20 mins from the city up stream so music to the ears right
