Went into this location for the first time a few days ago. There were 3 ladies working and not 1 of them offered any customer service. We were looking for 2 harnesses, leashes, large breed puppy food, toys and all natural chews. We found the chews we wanted after wandering the store and the young lady who came to the till was very friendly but we will be going to a different store for all the other items we need for our 2 new puppies. We’ve always been loyal Pet Valu customers and were very disappointed with this locations lack of customer service.

IF YOU'RE A FEMALE, STAY AWAY FROM HERE. What started as a great set of experiences for myself turned into a horror-show of mansplaining and profoundly terrible customer service for my wife. After loyally going to this store with our new puppy from 8 weeks of age, around the 14 week mark (and figuring we would go here essentially for the life of our time in Red Deer), my wife had the ultimate displeasure of meeting and being 'helped' by the male co-owner of this location. During this visit, she attempted to ask for advice on food, as our puppy had just been to the credentialed Vet recommended a change in diet. This unfortunate man had the gall to insist that we couldn't possibly receive an in-store credit (also known to almost anyone in the customer service industry as a gift card, gift certificate, refund), because their system can't do in-store credit. [for those wondering, I did check their return/exchange policy the night before, to ensure that she should have a smooth experience with the process.) After insisting that she would HAVE to take product in exchange now or lose the value of the returned-bag, my wife worked with what he was offering as best as she could, and ended up receiving 2 smaller bags of a different brand of dog food. This was a 20 minute process because the co-owner had no clue what stock they had, and was of dubious help, proclaiming the entire time the ideas that, "Food is food, it can't possibly be the food," and, "The vet is wrong, it must be something else," while implying that we are negligent owners as he must be eating things outside With more effort expended that you would think should be necessary for a simple exchange and advice seeking, my wife left and recounted this visit to me. I couldn't believe it, and called the store. It was at this point that I had the unique displeasure of talking to the male co-owner. After relaying the facts of my wife's visit to the store, this man not once admitted fault for providing a terrible experience, and insisted that "there must have been a miscommunication. We can do gift cards, I would have simply called up my wife as I'm not familiar with our systems." I know that people make mistakes, and was simply looking for this man to admit that he had done wrong. Nope, not happening, he refused, and kept saying there must have been a miscommunication. I question why this man is even allowed in the store in a customer-facing role, with his utter lack of customer service skills, the absolute void that is his experience and skillset as a a manager/co-owner, his outdated views on women as demonstrated by his continuous attempt to mansplain and finally his sense of self-importance, pretending to know more than a local vet, who has studied for years and been in practice for years, what is best for any animal.

Really good environment, friendly staff. Never really had a bad experience at this pet store. My only negatives with this store is that it seems a little bit over priced compared to the rest of the other pet stores and sometimes they do run out of products that they shouldn’t be. But overall it’s in a good location. Seems to be about ten dollars higher then the other stores.
